Just wondering if anybody has advice. just got back today being out of town for a few days and went to check pens for fawns. i had one more doe to fawn. she had twins and the first one i came across was healthy and doing well but the other one was laying on its side and couldnt even lift her head up. i pulled her immediately and got 3 ounces of red cap in her. within an hour after that she got a little spark back but still very week. while feeding her i noticed she was cut open on her front shoulder. hole about size of a quarter. that doesnt appear to be to bad. unfortunately my vet was closed and heading there right away in the am. what are some meds i for sure need to get in her? And any other advice u may have would be apprecIated. still pretty new as this is only my 3rd fawning season and first time bottle feeding. thanks again

I would spray the would with some Gentamycin spray or what's readily available at TSC-- Vetericyn spray (this stuff worked great on my dog's open wounds). It also doesn't burn and works well on topical infections. Available at TSC.
I was wondering how long typically it should take before she should consistently be able to hold her head up and even possibly walk? as of right now she will occasionally pull her head up but no more then seconds. which doesnt sound like much but quite a bit better then last night. i am concerned that when she does lift her head up she favors to the left which is the way she was laying when i found her. thanks again.
instead of stitching I have used superglue to close a wound. Even on myself. takes seconds,just don't get sloppy with it.

sometimes it's just not wise to close a wound... Better to let it ooze. Although if that baby were mine, she'd be seen by a vet asap. Have you given her any BoSe? any meds for energy? how is she eating? hydrated? Hydration is sooo impt- and you need to keep the fawn warm b/c hypothermia can kill quickly.

OMG thats nuts, but hay what works works .im just not sur i would have done a 6 in saw cut with SG, LOL
Crocket, I was near New Orleans two days after Katrina hit em and there was no real choice...no hospitals, docs, etc were available. Super glue is your friend.

Update. well she is definetly putting on weigh she is also very slowly getting some strength, definetly not as far along as i would of expected. she if lifting her head but still has no balance. she can hold up her weight fine but if i were to not hold her sides she would fall over. her balance is horrible. i almost think she is blind in one eye as its very blue which is why i think she has no balance. i have gotten her on a probiotic. i have given her bose, vitamin b complex, pen g. i just got goat drench, how much should i be giving her and is there anything else to recomend? I also noticed the last couple times checking on her, she has little bit of foam coming from mouth. is this pnemonia? Sorry if i am probably asking a lot of common sense questions. this is all just new to us. and thanks a lot for all the recomendations so far. i would love to hear more. thanks
If she is looking like she is going down hill, or if her hair is fluffy 1/2 cc draxxin is what I use very strong but very good.
Her hair isnt fluffy like she is in pain or anything. she just seems like she has hardly motivation to do anything. she made progress from when i pulled her till the next morning but very little progress in past 3 days. lifts her head some but just limp basically. not sure what to do
Ok hate to say things like this cause it might not work for you. I had a fawn get hung in the fence 4 days ago. I checked pens that morning went to town and came home to a hurt deer. It couldn't pick it's head up for 2 days third day little better and today standing. The only thing I did that your not is every other day 1/2 cc draxxin. It is very good stuff. Hope that helps. This afternoon we had to calm it down to eat.
If foam is coming from her mouth, it is possible that she might have pneumonia or some other respiratory issue. I would give the Draxxin, and also would give her a shot of Thiamine (just in case it is white muscle disease).

Well we gave her draxxin this morning and super b complex with thiamine. not sure what else i can do. pray for the best i guess. thanks again for all the great tips
