Have to drop the herd soon for TB testing......on my bucks that are over 200 lbs., should I be giving them 3 cc's of the Xylazine/Telazol mix at a 6:1 ratio?

Is that too much?

And if that is the right amount, should I be giving them 3 cc's of the Tolazine?

Just worried that 3 might be too much for my bucks. Were just doing the blood draw and we have to ear tag one of them.....that's it.

I don't want them out forever because these boys are going to be tough to prop up.

I use the 5:1 mix on my big bucks and huge does, but I've had awesome reversals using 3cc per 100#, instead of my old way of reversing with the same amount I knocked them out with.

6:1 is a bit light for bucks in my opinion. I only use that light of a dose for fawns. If you are just ear tagging and collecting blood, then you should be ok with 5:1. When we collect semen we use 4:1 to put them out more.... this is all with 2cc darts with 1" needles.

We use the 6-1,works well for calm deer 2cc dart 3/4 needle.Just started using the 1inch and I like them on the bucks. Will you be darting in the neck or butt?

If you mix your drug 7cc 100 and 2cc of 300 to a bottle and let it sit on the shelf at room temp for atleast a week a 2cc dart knocks any of our 250 to 300+pound deer out cold. If you mix the drug fresh and use it that day I usually use 4cc 100 and 2cc of 300 and use a 2 cc dart on anything smaller then 250 pounds and bump up to a 3 cc dart for the giants. You will save a bunch on drugs if you mix it when you buy it and keep at room temp.

The correct, or should I say ''the most accurate'' you could get answer to your question depends a great degree on the dimeanor of your bucks and their individual resistancy to Xlazine.

I agree with richie0033 that mixing 100mg/ml Xlazine with Telazol at a 5:1 ratio and using a 2cc dart is very apt to work great.

Any time you can use less Xlazine the better off you are. That being said, a 6:1 ratio shouldn't scare ya, I'm just sayin it's just always better to use less of the Xlazine when you can.

I had a buck that 2cc of the 5:1 mix just wasn't quite enough. So for him, I used 3cc mixed 6:1 of the 100mg/ml Xlazine

I personally always liked the 3/4 inch needles...the 1 inch always spooked me a bit should I make a bad hit somewhere.

And matching the amount of Tolazine with the amount of Xlazine used always had my deer up and walking in 15 minutes or less.

Hope the best for ya!

Isn't BAM from Zoopharm a lot safer to use?

Bam........is just another option...........In my opinion 6:1 or 5:1 is a safe dosage for ANY of my animals! In fact 6:1 is all I have ever used with 2.5 to 3 cc reverser depending on the size of the sedated deer! Not right or wrong just MY opinion:)

Thanks Guys! The rest of my herd is pretty tame. But seeing as how this will be my first time darting the boys...I think I'll use the 5:1 ratio with a 2 cc dart....save me on some meds too! If I ordered too little of the 2 cc darts...can I still put the meds in a 3 cc and fill the rest with saline?

Deer Dee - I always used the sterile/injectable water that I bought from my vet.

I don't know about saline...but I'll bet someone on here does.

ok...just wanted to make sure it wouldn't hamper the strength of the meds.
