Please Help!! After the discovery of diarrhea in your baby, and after treatment with ImmodiumAD, how long before normal stools will occur?

In my experience I usually saw a change in 24 hrs sometimes a little longer. I had much better results with Kaopectate than Pepto Bismol. The latter seemed to be too strong. You only need just a couple of drops in their bottle to do the job. As a matter of fact the dosing was really an issue. I was giving too much at first and the poor fawn was "see sawing "between diarrheah and constipation!I was also giving her canned pumpkin. It is also very important to make sure they get their probiotics( a little paste and good ole dirt). I have even put a pinch ot dirt in the bottle. My first few fawns were raised in a room with a concrete floor. I eventually fenced in a pen just for my fawns. They stay out there all day and I bring them in at night. What a difference a grassy pen made for their health!! They dug and ate sod and dirt and got alot more exercise with alot less cleaning too. I wish I had done it alot sooner. Finally it is important to find out why they have a loose stool. I believe even the most experienced deer farmer would tell you that sometimes they just get loose for no apparent reason and a day or two later they are fine again. Hope this helps, good luck!

Most of the time within 24 hours, but like Buckman said, it is important to make effort to find out why. Good advice Buckman.

Thanks a bunch Buckman, I have begun giving her pumpkin and she loves it. I also started offering her a little dirt each day in a small dish and she goes for that as well. She grabs at elm leaves and crunches them down, and this morning she ate 1/3 of a banana. Sure hope all of this is safe stuff. I believe she is about 8 weeks old, maybe. Hope to talk again. I enjoy all of your threads. Eve

Thanks, Scott, I have cut out the banana, but what do you mean by "fibrous". Can you give me examples, cause I am not sure, everybody describes that differently. Eve:rolleyes:

Thanks to all our friends on the Deerforums, Fawn Cricket is fine, just did the most amazing wonderful normal dark round cylindrical stools ever seen. Smelled like fresh cloves!! Thank you all for your help! I believe the Pumpkin, as well as the electrolyte, and the baby rice did the tricks. She is now eating lots of elm leaves, apples, strawberry yogurt, cooked carrots, small cherry tomatoes, + a decreased amount of goat's milk. :) Love you all. R & E Barton Farm

Congratulations Eve! You have just stated a "True" deer farmer's favorite saying..."Happiness is a hard pellet!!" Maybe we could sell a few T-shirts with that! I am glad to hear your baby is doing better. Tom

Hi Tom, Regarding T-shirts. What color should they be? How about White, with "Happiness is a Hard Pellet" in waxy, greenish-brown. Love that idea! Eve

Yes, Lana, T-shirts are being processed as we speak, saying "Happiness is a Hard Pellet"! Thanks again. Eve

lol That is too funny, yet so true. My wife and I have always humored ourselves in the deer pen as we find ourselves saying ''Now that's some good lookin poop right there!''
