I AI'd on Oct 27th this year and hit 100%. I only AI'd 6 does but none the less they all took. I used Rachael Weiss in PA to do my work. She is the greatest. I have not AI'd in mid November before so I can not speak for later being better or not. I know a lot of guys that AI Nov 7-8th and have real good success as well.
I don't know about the rest of the guys, but I was sweating it a little when the does were getting close this year because early May was pretty chilly and very wet. They were good and waited until the weather got a little better, but what do you guys in the north do? No concern for a late spring to arrive and possible pneumonia for the fawns?
We try to do our AI as close as possible to the natural rut. That ends up being the beginning of November. I believe we did ours Nov. 11 this year. About the first week of November is what we shoot for. We definitely don't want to do it any earlier because of the conditions in the spring. This year it warmed up pretty early and overall things were great. We had one late snow in May but luckily before any of our fawns had shown up.
We AI about 100 does more or less each year and use Dr. Bringans. We do all of our AI in the chute and average about 80%.
Alabama - we run our deer through our handling system and when they are in the squeeze chute we do the AI ******lly. We do not do laproscopic AI. It takes about 2 minutes per doe to do it this way. We do the same thing when we put in and take out the cidr. Fast with minimal stress.
