Am I missing something? I understand there borders are closed, but there prices were for the most part better than most of the sales ive seen this year. Is that because of the closed borders?

Thats because they have a great Association filled with great people and closed borders with high fence hunters. When a guy can sell 100 stockers a year in his own state he is doing great. There are many pushing those numbers.  Its crazy how they and Texas operate, Their 200 inch bucks bring twice what the same buck in the north would bring.

Why is that ?

That's the million dollar question my friend. When I sat at Nadefa and heard them fellas tell me what they were doing I could only scratch my head! Crazy!

Well believe it or not those numbers from the auction are way down from last year. About half. Our hunting industry in our state has a lot to do with in state money. Most would rather stay here and hunt. And some are corporations. Plus it's not just the price it's the accommodations and atmosphere

it is nice to see good prices, but sucks to stand on the outside looking in. My question is, do the preserves get more in Texas and Alabama for hunts or are the preserves not making as much per deer?

200" is about $13,500 in Texas so yeah...loads higher. It's supply and demand guys. Bama is limited so farmers and preserves can ask what they want. Ohio preserves can but deer from any state they want so prices are driven down. bama has 100 farms to choose from. Ohio has 1,000 to choose from ..(and those numbers are not fact..just put out for example)

I believe you are right but I also believe its the state also. I mean Ny is closed and you will never see that kind of money! They will just go hunt in Ohio! Lol

There's a lot of unknowns Mike. why would someone pay $13,500 to hunt a 200" deer in texas when they could drive out of state and get that same thing for $10k less??? i'd do it in a heartbeat myself. If i could afford a hunt at $13,500 i could surely afford to drive..or fly somewhere else and still save money. that's the price of convenience i suppose

Ya buddy..A guy could kill like 4 bucks in 4 different northern states for the price of 1 of the same size buck in the south.
