How tall does the shade cloth have to be in the alley way to keep the deer from hitting the fence? What is the best material to use?

anything 6' or higher will be fine. The areas where they'll be cornered leading into the barn I would make 8'.

I know of a very successful MO farmer that uses only 4' cloth in his alley leading to the handling facility. Told me that he'd never had one attempt to leap over it but did say he held it 1' off the ground, so approximately 5' up on the fence. I don't have permission to say who but this guy is a veteran farmer and very well respected.

I used to use rolls of 4' black 30mm plastic and I never had a deer try to jump over it. I think the fact they can't see what's on the other side is what prevents them from trying.
