I have a few does each sring after thier vaccinations with covexin 8 I get a few with sores and have 2 does that are womb sisters who usally have to go back thru the chute to have a knot about the size of a tennis ball lanced and all the gunk and puss drained out. Anyone have a simmilar problem ? have tried fresh needle on all does. Different injection site and still have had a few problems! Is there something else I can use ? Any help appreciated!

I'm guessing your dragging bacteria into the injection site with the needle. Bacteria is present everywhere, even on skin. A new needle will still drag bacteria present on the skin into the injection site.

I was told by my vet Shane Donely that the lumps are common and a potential side effect with Alpha 7..... I will not use it again as the lumps burst open during fly season and i think an infection due to flies etc.... is higher than not using Apgha 7

I agree you will have some small lumps from the vaccines. They usually disappear on their own ain a couple of weeks. However lumps are different from abcesses.

An abcess indicates an infection from bacteria or other microbe being trapped in the body at the point of the injection site. These are not normal. A contaminated needle is most likely the cause. Even with a new clean needle, it still can get contaminated before the injection is given to the animal. Make sure the rubber top of the vaccine bottle stays clean and as sterile as possible.

Gaylen, But why the same 2 does 3 years in a year ? I don't know.....But there has to be something else to use instead of covexin 8 or alpha 7 ? Rick I agree probably will stop using it also!

Gaylen i understand your comment regarding contaminated needle etcc.... but it just doesnt make sense, we give allot of shots in a year and why only the Alpha 7 shots caused the lumps and no other shots ever....

Rick my thoughts exactly.....We have even tried new needle on EVERY doe,so I don't understand ? What's up!!

With Covexin 8 you are more apt to cause a lump or nodule by giving it sub-Q according to their literature. I usually give it to them IM with no problems. Last year I tried it sub-Q on 11 head. Two developed a small nodule and 1 an abcess (caused by a contaminated needle). The other 30 some head got Covexen IM, not one developed a lump. Everything is getting Covexin 8 IM this year.

What about using Alpha7 or Covexin8 on fawns at 3wks old. Allen

I give the 8 way shot to all of my fawns at birth, I havent had any problems with it in the past. I have done this for the last 5 or 6 years.

I also give 8 way at birth and the bottle feds again at two weeks, and a booster in September. Those raised on the mothers get it at birth, another dose in September at weaning time then a booster in two weeks.
