we wait 21 days, that way we can catch the next cycle if the ai don't catch, should be long enough to prevent non conception or abortion by "buck effect"

I'd wait 16-18 days. A do should recycle in 21 days but some (especially young does) will go before that. 16-18 days should get them all IMO.

yep two and a half weeks is the best time frame!! Good Luck......Hope you don't need the back up option!! Just spent the day yesterday at ten different farms Aiing deer with Doc Briggans.........
