Does it hurt to dart using BAM on pregnant does, will this bam effect the fawns in different stages of Gestation period?

I have not seen any adverse effects of BAM on Pregnant does during any of the 3 stages of gestation.

I just looked on Zoopharm's website and did not find anything mentioned about "adverse effects", to not use it on animals during pregnancy or lactation. There are things like lung congestion, heart failure, liver, kidney problems etc. mentioned for the Medetomidine. That's all I could find.

much appreciated, I will be darting a few does in Jan-Feb. and was wondering before I do it.

thanks

Darted lots of pregnant does with BAM... the agent itself should not cause you any issues.  How the darting is done is another manner.  Good luck.

Regarding your enquiry about BAM use in pregnant does, it has been used safely/effectively on pregnant does up to 2 weeks prior to delivery.

With less than 2 weeks to parturition, we do not recommend it.

How soon after AI is it safe?

tahoma, geneva, Many deer farmers/ranchers currently use BAM to immobilize does for Lap AI.

tahoma, geneva, Have conducted a study comparing BAM v. Tel/Xyl on 40 does during 11ptlaparoscopic artificial insemination with equal/better conception rates and, most importantly, a significantly improved quality of recovery experience for all BAM does.

tahoma, geneva, 11pt[See link attached for report summary].

tahoma, geneva, 11ptBased on field data and experiences BAM would have little effect on does following AI.

tahoma, geneva, 11pt[Assuming they have fully recovered from whatever immobilization drugs used for AI.]

We used BAM for LAP AI...no problems.  I just have a doe that I need to move into a new pen 12 days after AI (with back up buck and other does)  and want to make sure I won't make her abort by doing so.

We used BAM last year in the first trimester to move some mule deer does and had no negative effects

Off topic a bit but didn't want to start a new thread.

What does everybody use for transporting fawns from bottle feeding pens to the big girl pens if you don't have a runway?

If BAM what dose are you using to knock down and wake up? Seems like a smaller margin of error with the little ladies.

Are there other options other than sedation?

Thanks
