Just wanted to say a big" THANK YOU" to Wildlife Pharma. for making a great product. BAM... We used it today to lap ai 21 does. All went very well. It's really nice to have a product that works so well.

Michael, I thought folks said you COULD NOT use BAM for surgery type sedation ? But seems it must have worked well for you!

the Long 196 days to count down now begins!! LOL

Hope you guys do well

I heard that rumor too. All I can say is it worked GREAT today. Dr. Bringans thought it was really good too. They have it on the label now for ai work. Good luck Ol' buddy

We used BAM Saturday to sedate a 200# buck for surgery. I darted him with 1cc of the BAM mixture, half what ZooPharm calls for. He was out in less than 10 minutes. We did surgery on him, adding only Lidacaine at the incision site. He was out comfortably for 1 hour with no other drugs used. We reversed and he was up in five minutes.

I've used Domitor(the M in BAM) for near ten years now and it is 1000X better than anything else on the market.

I've been using BAM for the last two weeks to sedate deer sick with EHD so I can medicate them. I used light loads on purpose because they were sick. These are very calm deer. I used from .5 to .25cc of BAM to sedate deer weighing 100-140 pounds. All deer went out except one that had to lean on the fence to stand while I medicated him. All of these deer are still alive.

What is the difference between Bam and xylazine.......as far as drug mixture is concerned? Why do you think ot works so much better? I am going to have to give it a try......has anyone had any bad experiences with it?

So what is the contact number for these guys. Thanks.

The major differences are with BAM you don't have the fluctuation in body temp, respirations stay smooth and steady, also the rumen is not paralyzed so it continues working while the animal is sedated. The reversal is much smoother and complete. When you reverse the animal it is up and ready to go, no staggering around. I have sedated hundreds of deer with BAM and as of today have had no problems, sixty in the last two weeks. I know eventually I will encounter an animal who has an adverse reaction to the drug but so far nothing but great results!

You cannot use it to collect semen. You still need to use xylazine/telazol. I think Dr Ables was working on taking out the azaperone(smooth muscle relaxant) to see if the torb/medet combo would work, but I do not know where he is with that.

It is so much better than plain xylazine, although more expensive. Cost is comparable to telazol/xylazine combo. They go out quicker, they stay out better and reverse better. Some may need a little more Antipamazole if they do not wake up within 10 min aftter initial reversal. No question without a doubt much safer than straight xylazine. While they are out it is like a sleeping baby. Some may feel what you are doing. We had a buck fawn with an abscess above his foot , we had to give him a little more and still felt me working on it. I have seen a couple a little groggy for the rest of the day. The next time I would give that one more antipamazole on initial reversal.

It stands for Butorphanol, Azaperone, Medetomidine. I have 2 kits on their way from Wildlife Pharmaceuticals. There are order forms for your vet on their site.

they are the same family of drugs, but the Medetomidine is much "cleaner" effecting only those receptors needed. xylazine effects places/organs we don't really want to hit, like the heart. It can, and does, cause heart problems in deer sedated with xylazine.

Also the reversal is cleaner and completely reverses the Medetomidine. On the deer we did surgery on Sat we didn't reverse the Butorphanol as we wanted the pain relief to continue working.

As on other threads I've used Medetomidine for nearly ten years without a hitch, clean down, clean up.

Good to hear this. We were just discussing this with Dr. Bringins. He left our farm and went to yours. We will be using BAM next year.

Michael, do you use the recommended dosages or have you tried lesser dosages....

I ask because I use less than Zoopharm advises to use, based on my vets recomendations based on the mgs of Medetomidine in the BAM.
