Bloody Stool?

Hey I need some help. I have several fawns with blood in their stool. They are all bottle fed fawns. The best I can tell from research is that they may have Coccida or Coccideosis (sorry for spelling). Anyone have any experience on how to treat this? I will obviously go to my vet for assistance but knew someone out there in the industry knows whats going and may have a remedy. Thanks for any and all input!

Stool sample to the vet ASAP. Also if the fawns are under the age of 2 weeks its most likely not coccida.

i have been off to the same start. I had one die right away from it so the minute they strted with the blood i have been treating them with 1/2 baytril under skin once and 1/2 cc genomycin in there milk bottle along with a half of a SMZ tablet(sulfa tab) twice a day. fawns are doing well now. i sent a deer off to be tested at missouri university and should hear back any day to find out what it actually is.

The best thing to keep on hand for your babies is a bottle of SMZS !!! IT`s the only thing i know and used for years that will treat bot coccidia and ecoli . Tt is very safe . coccidia needs to be treated with a sulfa drug and for Ecoli you need an antibiotic !! SMZs treats either or . Best to have a sample tested to make sure but when time is important its best to treat than to regret . It has sulfamethaoxzole and trimethriprim in it . I never raise a fawn without it . Just a pollocks imput . Call your vet to order .

Mitch is right on about the SMZ's he told me about it 2 years ago and we always keep it handy

Corid is what I have used in adults. It is typically mixed with water. I don't remember directions on the label for a single deer's dosage. A very little Corid goes a long way in water and the treatment is 5 days long. Albon is also used.''SMZ's'' I have on hand all the time and are very useful. They will melt down easily and you can feed them in their bottle. If it was me and you decide to use SMZ, I would give 1/4 tab twice a day. Then back it up with a probiotic paste. Good luck to you Trip E!

SMZ"S are avaliable in a cherry flavored liguid and mixes geat right in the milk

Mark the SMZs that I use is liquid . It comes in a quart bottle in cherry and grape flavor. i normally give a fawn 5 cc per day for 5 days and follow with probiotics. i`ve even given it to my grand daughters. lol
