I was wondering what the going rate for boarding deer would be? I had a guy buy a doe, and he does not have pens build yet. He said he would be willing to pay for boarding, but i am not sure what would be a going rate. I was thinking $20/month but am not 100% sure. What other things should i look at such as vaccinations, etc. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Drew,

Look at your costs Feed, drugs, labor, do you have extra space vs pen rotation. Remember if deer dies in your care what would be your response and how much will that cost? Keep in mind insurance, taxes, and costs to set up your pens. If you only charge $20 per month let your customer know the value and gift you are providing.

We have 155 deer on our farm and I think we take care of them quite well; we also keep 15 for another farm. Feed alone cost over $1.00 per. day then as Scott said look at all the other cost such as fence, land ,and your time. If I had someone take care of my deer for $20 per month at there place and cared for them like we do I'll bring them over! We charge. $2.00 per day for each adult and thats hardly enough.

If you are boarding for another make sure you spell out details of all the "what ifs..." i.e. doe dies in pen, doe didn't take in breeding, guy can't get pens up in time for fawning, guy loses job and renigs! All good things to think about. It may sound too legal but nobody has a sour taste if you hash out details before the unusual usually happens.
