Hi everyone....I need your help...I am a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in the state of Florida...I have a fawn with a broken femur due to a dog bite also has osteomyelitis (infection in the bone) .....my vets pinned the leg and started him on Sulfatrim...Sulfatrim not working switched him to Execenel along with Banamine...he is doing better...no fever and drinking bottle however we xrayed yesterday still has infection/drainage...waiting on culture.....my question is what antibiotics can safely be used on fawns for bone infections.....greatly appreciate your help...

Thanks...Kim

Kim,

Over the thirty five years I have been in this business I have used most drugs on deer and have not had an issue with them.  My guess is they will all work on deer.  When your drug sensitivity comes back put it up on this site and I'm sure the deer farmers will tell you which one worked better on their deer.

if the pin is going through the infection you need to pull it, hardware and infection do not go together.  You would be surprised how well it will heal without it.
