i have a yearling doe that i think is bred, and she seems to be a little constipated. any advice. she is going some but she seems to be straining alot.

I would be more concerned she may be trying to have a fawn which may be dead inside her. I have seen deer do this when they are trying to birth and it didn't work out for them. Any discharge from her to indicate something may be rotten? If not then I'm wrong on this. I have never had a constipated deer that I know of.

We just brought in an elk which was presenting the calf backwards. Back legs out to the hocks. We waited till one hour before dark as she was not having any movement for five hours. Pulled out the calf and it was alive, cleaned it up on the face area and left it in the stall with the cow. If it's not cleaned up in the morning I guess it's my new bottle baby.

If you think she's constipated try some vegetable oil on her grain . She'd probably eat corn oil on her grain mixture. Sure she's not trying to fawn ? You mentioned straining could be fawning . Sometimes it's pretty hard to know whats going on without actually seeing the animals so this is just a guess at best .. Just a thought !!

thanks guys, she does poop a little bit, but like i said she's straining alot. i've watched her do this 6 or 7 times in the last couple of days.

i'm not sure if she's even bred because she's so skinny, but she has a bulge on her right side that looks like something is moving around from time to time
