Wasn't sure where to post this so decided here. My smallest (and was the sickest) fawn is standing bow legged. I noticed it this morning as she was facing directly towards me. She stands with her shoulders kinda out (looks like a bulldog) but its her front legs from the knees down that look weird. I think her ankles sort of roll to the outside a little too. Also her knees look more knobby or bulbous than the other fawns. It's tough to get her to stand still at the right angle long enough to tell. She seems to walk and run OK but when she is standing straight at you, you can really see it. I tried a search of the forums but couldn't find anything. Is this a common thing? Is she lacking anything, maybe? I am really at a loss. Don't know if it's something I did or what causes this. What should I do, if anything?

When a fawn is underdeveloped like this you can give them BoSe. It contains Selenium and Vitamin E. I reccomend 1/2 cc one dose IM. This will help and they usually will grow out of it.

Woody, the biggest question I have is, how old is this fawn? It is normal for fawns to be born this way, especially if they are smaller than normal. I have had them bowlegged at birth but by the time they are a week old it isn't noticeable. BOSE can help, B Complex won't hurt either. If the fawn is running and playing, it should grow out of it.

Good Luck

The fawn was born 5/30. She didn't look bowlegged until about 3 days ago. I seems to get a little worse every day. Maybe cuz I keep looking but she seems pigeon toed also. She was really sick when she was first born. Extremely dehydrated and scours bad. She was on IV for 1 1/2 days and then I had to inject her with ringers SQ 5 times a day for a week to keep her hydrated cuz she wouldn't drink much. I wasn't sure if she would make it for a while there but she came around and was doing very well. Drank a lot and pooped pellets. Seemed things were looking better. I cut her to three bottles a day about two weeks ago. She doesn't really eat at her food but eats greens. Could I have hurt her by cutting her bottles? She seemed healthy enough and even though she is kinda small, she was finally growing. Now it seems like she slowed down growing and is bow legged! I was going to cut back to 2 bottles this weekend but now, under the circumstances,I'm not sure. It's freakin' killing me thinking I might have made a mistake with her care that brought this on!! I'd like to get her weaned but I don't want to stunt her more or have her get worse by cutting her milk. Should I try the BoSe and some B-12 complex?? I gotta do SOMETHING for her. What do you think?

It may be too late for the BoSe, but Vitamin B-complex would help stimulate her appetite.
