Buck fawn, 3 months old is not peeing? Does have lumpy jar. Treated today. Tried manual stimulation....did not work. He is pooping. Any suggestions?

he may have a kidney stone blockage

put him on bottled water if you can. I lost one, and almost another before changing my water to bottled water, then to tested well water. City water was trash.

Is there any chance one of the other fawns were suckling on the little guy and hurt him. I have seen them get sucked so hard it broke the uretha(sp) and the fawn could not pee and in a few days you will see him start to get bulges on his sides and belly. That is the urine trapped in the skin! Not Good!

I have also seen them get blockage of the uretha from crystals in the water!

There is a possibility that the other fawns could have injured him.

BUT, are you by chance feeding Calf-manna? I had issues last year from feeding that and I also talked to other farmers that experienced the same problem.

can you sedate him, then check the end of his *****. It is very difficult to check but the very tip may be blocked. You can probably feel the blockage if so. You can snip off 1/16" of the end without damaging it.

As you can figure, if the urine is not relieved it will back up the kidneys and damage them, and kill the deer painfully. Been there done that.

still no luck....he is at the vet one pint relieved via a needle.Vet needed more help unable to unsheath him .What i have learned is that it is usually past the point at which a catheter can help ,but if they can't get the blockage cleared in a couple hours there is a precedure that will make him a her (in looks) .Should know something in the am.

I took him to our vet they tried catheter but it did not work .Most blockages are behind where the catheter could go ,theres a turn before bladder that it cannot pass through. They drained his bladder with a syringe ,did blood work and other tests before I could decide on surgery he died .Had a necropsy done cause of death was leaking bladder cause of blockage was gall stones sent them away to get tested to see if they were caused from feed, water or soil.

There's something called a coudè catheter that has a curve at the end that is used for difficult catheterization. I know it's too late now but maybe worth a shot in the future. Sorry to hear he didn't make it.
