This fall i hope to have a crop of button bucks. My ? is is it ok to leave in same pen as mother. I have one big pen and then one fawning pen. I plan on having my yearling buck by himself in fawning pen and then does and breeder in big pen. Is it ok to leave button bucks with mother in the big with out any concerns of them breeding. My breeder buck will be 3 yr.

A button buck can and will try to breed a doe even if there is a more mature buck in the pen with them. DNA can and has proven this to be true.

I left two older buck and a little guy in a pen this season ...cause I was building and adding to pen...I didn't care what big buck was the father cause I planned on doing DNA testing...Well when the two big guys were fighting on who was going to breed the little guy slid in and won everytime.

An 8 pointer, 4 pointer and a button buck are standing by a field browsing on acorns.

The 8 pointer says, 'I'm happy with my 10 does, we're really getting along.'

The 4 pointer says, 'I'm happy as heck with my 5, they really take care of me!'

The Button buck says, 'My two are all right, better than nothing I guess.'

Then all of a sudden a GIANT 14 pointer walks out into the field. The three bucks had never seen anything like him before, they were in awe. The big buck made a huge scrape and pissed in it, rubbed a tree the size of a telephone pole and snapped it off at the ground! The three bucks looked on in amazement.

The 8 pointer says, 'I could probably get by with 4 does...........Who really needs 10 anyway?'

The 4 pointer says, 'You know............. come to think of it, I only really use one or two of mine!'

The button buck was silent, as the other two bucks look over to him in confusion. Suddenly the yearling runs out into the middle of the field! He rips and tears up some grass........ pisses all over the place, snorts & wheezes, rubs his head raw on a tree and chews a lickin branch clean off! Then he runs back over to his buddies.

His friends immediately ask him, 'What the hell are you doing!?'

Then the buck replied, I just wanted to make sure that big#@! knows I'm a buck!'

Wicked,

I don't think I'd try that. The word on the street is that Bucky is out of Poncho who was a button buck in the same pen with Little Boomer.

Looks like my yearling george will be getting some company in the fawn pen. Thanks guys i knew you would have some forsight

The explanation I have heard was that Little Boomer was seen jumping Daisy Mae, but that a buck fawn was seen chasing but never jumped Daisy Mae. At least not that they saw. The buck fawn would eventually be called Poncho.

The reason they weren't correct with the DNA sooner was that years ago they used 6 markers while doing the DNA. Now they use 8 markers and this allows them to distinguish between the sire and the grandsire better. This was an issue because of course Poncho is out of Little Boomer.

If you go to DNA solutions on-line directory you will now see Bucky being the son of Poncho, and Poncho being out of Little Boomer.

This has caused me to redo some of my pedigree sheets.

I left two button buck's in with my doe's this year because they should be my best buck's, I seen them on the doe's giving it a try while the older buck was off after another doe. I dont know if they got the job done or not but they sure were mounting the doe's.
