Mike,Richard ..............Best of luck to you both! We LAP A/I 'd on Wed morn. all went well but if you can check seeders often! Had 12 does in one pen and went to pull cidrs and had 5 missing thiers! even after cutting cords off by 1" and burning a ball. Oh well thats the way it goes some times! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

what do you mean by ( burning a ball );)

The original cidr has a "ball" on the end of it. they recommend cutting 1/2" to 1" off of the cord and use a lighter to burn a replacement ball back onto the end of the cord. The "ball" will aid in removing the cidr. hope that helps

I've been very lucky with the CIDR's and have only lost one in some twelve years. We do about 50 does a year on average.

Since I sell them I would like to explain the way we put them in. We push the CIDR implanter up hard in the opening and keep pressure on it as we insert the CIDR. If the thread is sticking out away from the body or sticking straight up either the doe or her pen mates will play with the thread and pull it out. The wings of the CIDR are horizontally placed with the hips, in other words hip to hip so they spring out to each hip with the pulling thread pointing down. Try to make the thread fold down in the lips of the ****** or tight to the sides of the lips. If CIDR removal does happen by your does it is a good idea to cut the thread and make a new ball to help pull it out next year. The shorter thread will help stop this activity. Any does without a CIDR is out of the AI program and should be placed with the back up buck. It is a good idea to have a CIDR implanter. Hope this helps.

We did 3 does for our first time this year.:). We heard that the does could possibly pull the out so we just cut the ball and a 1/2" of thread off. Had to use the needle nose pliers to pull them.

On a different note regarding the missing thread. We had 1 doe that the thread was gone. I remembered a farmer telling me that if the thread is gone does not necessarily mean that the cidr is gone. Sure enough the tail was inside coiled up. That was a good tid bit of information.

H&M,

I'm guessing you are asking if you put them in sideways or the thread was facing up, upside down. If the CIDR stay in the ****** the CIDR's will work and stop the doe from coming in heat. AI should go smoothly in that case.
