I did a search in the forums to see if this has been covered, but couldnt find anything. How much does it cost (generally) to have a doe AI'd? A guestimate is fine. Either type also.

I had a conversation with a domestic sheep man who has Lap AI done on his sheep in Illinoise. The Lap Ai is the same whether your doing sheep or deer I would think. He is only charged 60. per head but the sheep owner supply CIDR's and Folligon which in sheep would add another 25.00 per head.
I'm getting my wild sheep Lap AI'd this year for 100. a head which is still a good price from what I hear.
That got me thinking about my elk AI so I called a cattle cervicle AI guy and he charges $5.00 a head on domestic cows. Guess who is doing my elk cervicle ai this year.
Guess what I'm saying is shop around or learn cervicle AI yourself. Cervicle AI on deer is easy so just check out whitetaildeerfarmer.com AI as said above a caveman could do it.
When you have your AI gun and other AI tools it will only cost $12.00 a head to do your own cervicle AI. No waiting or missing the schedule as it is all you doing it.

Very well said Jack it is very easy to do yourself. Most vets charge for their travel expence as well. Don't forget that part. Plus you have to put in your own seders and then run through and give your own shots of folligen. So why not run threw and put in your own semen.
Lap ai runs on average $250 per deer including all synchrony meds. Not including anesthesia. Make sure a licensed vet is hired. The states are starting to crack down on un-licensed practioners doing this and you can be liable as well. Why lap vs convention ai?? High dollar semen can be split 3-4 ways easily and semen is saved by not using it on does that a not cycling or have poor quality follicles. You can save more than you spend on a vet that does lap ai and there is a greater chance of your deer surviving post surgery. Good luck!
