Coughing Fawns

The weather in our area has been not quite the best for raising fawns lately. I brought a buck fawn in my house for a severe cough. He is doing better but I have heard of a few other farms that are now dealing with the cough. I used draxxin on my own fawn and he is in a controlled temp environment. I guess my question is what do others suggest to do about the coughs? My fawn does not have pnuemonia (at least doesn't appear to be), he breaths great then out of no where he will have a coughing fit. He is MUCH better now with only the occasional cough. I had several other farms call and tell me they had the same thing but they are still coughing and they also used Draxxin. Any thoughts on this? I would find it hard to believe it to be a break out of lung worms but anything is possible. This is the first year we have really had this kind of coughing.

Symptoms:

Fine when laying down breathing normal. When they get up they cough, sometimes hard. Then they are back to normal. No scours. Feeding normal also.

last coughing i had was lung worm i think , darted, with noramectin. one died ,then i heard others coughing, darted and was over.3 month old fawns. whatever it was it stopped with wormer dart,DC ps only exp, i had.

I was thinking of trying ivormec pour on. I am thinking it quite possibly may be lung worms. I also have ivormec paste wormer that I worm with on my older tame deer that I may try.

Thanks for the input DC, I appreciate it!!

what ever you use make sure it kills lung worms.it stopped quick ,if they dont better quick, look at possible pneumonia, might not hurt to do that also.could be a start,of it, with the bad weather,Dc

I had the same problem last year with two doe fawns 7 months old. Gave Draxxin first, still coughing after three days. Treated with Ivomec pour on and safe guard paste. Coughing stopped in two days. This is what worked for me in a similar situation. Good luck . Allen

thanks Allen, I put Ivomec pour on on tonight and this also is day 3 for the one in my house from the day I administered the Draxxin. He acts excellent with great pellets but something just isn't right with the continued coughing. I will be giving safe guard paste tomorrow. I only have ivomec paste on hand so I will probably have to make the trip to the store. I hate to medicate so much but I have no choice. I will be following up with a few days of Target probiotic paste. I spoke with the other farms having the same issues and they were getting ready to head out with the pour on too. Thanks for the input. I think this should work.
