So it sounds like I need a dart for giving meds. Is there a brand, model that you have found that works the best for your money? Im not looking for the cheapest but im not looking at spending alot. Is there a good place to order meds online or just a local farm store?

Pneu Dart.......all your darting needs.....a lot of the meds you will need to order through a vet.....so you will need to establish a relationship with a vet willing to do deer.

talk to local large animal vet and tell him what you will be doing...and needing. Most will work with you. If not, look at another one.

The folks on here know way more than 90% of the vets out there in regards to deer health, meds, dosages....but you will need a good vet to help you out.

I would like to say that as far as projectors go, that I bought a Pneu Dart X-caliber rifle 2 or 3 years ago, It is by no means the cheapest, In fact I was very hesitant to purchase it. $1900 is ALOT of money to me, I was not sure if it would be worth the money. I must say from my experience, darting with it cannot be any simpler, I have so much confidence in this rifle, which, I have darted 150+ deer with for me and other farmers. I love this rifle, I will never buy another type of dart projector as I cannot see how they can be built any better than the X caliber. I think confidence in your equipment is priceless. I am speaking purely from my experience, I do not work for pnue dart, and I am not saying it is the best on the market, but in my own search for a reliable dart gun it is unmatched by any. In my opinion, I say if you take the deer business seriously and plan on doing it for years, save up, buy the X Caliber and you won't regret it. I had some trouble last winter with my gun leaking when it got past 10 PSI, I called Pnue Dart's office, and for only the cost of shipping, they had it back to my door for no costs other than shipping in just about two weeks. I will also say, in my years of purchasing their darts, I have never had a bad dart, they have all done their job.

I agree about pneu Dart......can't go wrong.......they have great products....good service........and very reputable...

X-caliber is hands down the best dart gun available! I love mine, about to buy a second one for my help.

I love my X-caliber, its easy to use, its quiet and the options they have available you can get with it only make it easier to dart your deer. I also found everyone at Pneu-Dart to be helpful and friendly to deal with.

I have 2 Pneu Dart pistols and have had GREAT LUCK with them! Performance wise and SERVICE!

But I will be buying a Dani Ject rifle .............Lighter in weight and ability to use all types and brands of darts...........This past summer with EHD and a shortage of darts helped convince me..............Oh and shoulder and arm troubles! Lol

Ill be giving you a call when I get back into town. The pistols cant have very good range could they? 10-20 yards. My first pen is a 200 ft square, which wouldnt be a big deal right now but I plan on building a four acre pen next.

Jason, although I now have an Xcaliber, and absolutely love it, I used a Pneudart pump rifle for 10 years for hundreds of dartings. Once you practice and use it a lot, you will find it is very reliable and also a lot less expensive than the Xcaliber. If you plan to dart, rather than using a facility, and will use it a lot, Xcaliber is the way to go. Otherwise, the pump rifle will do a great job for occasional darting.

Well my long term plan is to build a facility and use a drop chute. So ideally I need a gun for little things aswell as emergency. I'll more than likely allow natural breeding until I save the money for the chute, as I've read A/I requires putting the deer down a few times in a rather short time. This cant be great for the deer? I've got a local farm that is going to sell me his drop chute, he's got a great setup, but we haven't talked money for it yet. Cant be cheap.

I LOVE my dart pistols! I do have a handling facility that I would NOT be without and my animals go thru it regularly.....................BUT I also have a VERY calm herd (wormed 40+ does oraly with hand syringe out in the pen)

But a dart pistol is just another tool in a deerfarmers goodie bag!:)

Jason, all Pneu-Dart projectors have their pros and cons, it just depends on your particular application. Please give me a call and we can discuss at length your situation and find the best fit for your needs.
