This will be our first go at Darting our deer. We made a chute to tag them. We are having a hard time getting them in the chute. Then keeping them in the V part to work on them.

We have 12 deer to tag

Whitetail

1 3 year old Buck around 170 pounds

1 2 year old Buck around 150

1 1 year old Buck around 130

2 2 year old Does around 130

Fallow

1 3 year old Buck around 200 Pounds

1 2 year old Buck around 170

1 1 year old Buck around 130

4 does 3 year old around 120

They are very tame. They all will eat out of your hand.

If anyone in the area would like to help out during this time frame would be great. My vet did not seem to be much help other then I will show up to watch and get paid.

How does this sound for darting Kentucky Whitetail and Fallow deer.

Pull Feed & Water minimum of 12 to 24 hrs in advance

6cc Xylazine to 1 bottle Telazol 5cc.

2 cc Tri Port Dart for Bucks

1 cc Tri Port Dart for Does

Shooting for the back upper leg and rump area.

This is what the Vet sugguested.

2.5cc of Tolazine in the white haired part of the Rump as soon as we are done tagging.

I think 2cc might be much for a bottlefed buck. I dont own a deer that takes over 11/2cc of 6to1 cocktail to put out. I would do the largest buck first with 11/2cc and if he goes right out i would give the rest 1 or 11/4cc. If they have horns on just watch close. Does should go out with 1cc easy. They all are different so its kind of a learning curve.

Reverse with 1cc per 55lbs i believe the directions say. I most times just double what i put them out with. 1cc out= 2cc Reverser Thats with most of my does. Just what works for me!! Good Luck. Be Careful.

Thanks

I was thinking 2cc to be sure our first time doing it. I don't want my 2 older bucks waking up on me. So 1 cc for the does should work? Any one worked with Fallow deer will they go out the same?

Your fallows will not go out very well with xylazine. I have much better results with BAM. Feel free to give me a call at 205-296-0062, I'll offer any dosage advice I can.

Fallow can be a bit if a confound , its interesting to see how well this BAM brew works. We never had great results using a fentanol, azaperone & xylazine cocktail on fallow when fentanol was avaliable. I have never used azaperone alone or in any brew since on fallow.

I'd feel happy with the cocktail in the op to work safely on fallow, it's what I use. As for doses, some here know I only talk in mg/kg & suggest talking to youre vet re the doses you use.

Cheers Sharkey

I think this sounds good, but I usually aim front shoulder/base of neck (personal preference). I only say that so you don't wait for a butt shot when you have a good shoulder shot. Are you using 100 mg xyalzine? If so, your doses should work fine. Lastly, draw in before dosing the tolazine to make sure you didn't find a vein; you only want it in the meat. That's not too much reverser for a large deer.

I have a RV on site to stay in for our hunters.

Fallow deer Have 2 big bucks that I need to knock down still full horns. Not sure what my vet can get for meds. Please message back with cocktail to use on them. Please use cc so I know how to figure out a mount to ask my vet for.

I know when we got our first Fallow we darted with 3cc xylazine. The buck went out in 5 min and snoring but the doe was wide wake and still walking after hitting her with a second dart.

I would recommend you get factory original tolazine reversal. The clear bottle is in a box when you get it from the vet. We have killed several deer with the repackaged "brown bottle" tolezine from a PA supplier. See my post on the thread about problems with reversal.

This is one of those most hectic times but if at all possible have someone and just one person record the darting to back on the hoof process. This person documents what time the darts made contact, what time the deer went down, how long the process took, when reversal was administered, when then were back up and walking. If you do this it will be hard to find any 2 the same. Then this will be a baseline for these deer in the future. You can look up this info and exactly know how much to give.

As Mike said all bottlefed deer take less. Our first go at this I had 1 doe that did get back up for 4 hours and that was with 2cc. Needless to say she gets less now. I have another doe takes 2 cc goes out and is back up within 20 minutes. They are all different.

Hope this helps.

Great Advice Jeff! 4 Hours? Bet ya were a little nervous on that one. We had some a little slow to come around but nothing close to that. That girl would probably go out with 1/2cc. lol

Mike you can't put into words what we was feeling. I sat there on the ground with her the whole time wondering what was going to happen next.

That was from a syringe not a dart so she got all of it. She is a little older now so she only gets 1 cc.
