How close to fawning can a doe safely be tranquilized? We still have a couple to move this spring.

i sold my place and i am moving to a new farm by the 15th.. i was wondering the same thing... also what about using B.A.M? just wondering if this way of darting them where they are only asleep a few minutes would help..

i darted a bred doe(fawn) this morning to move her, granted she will give birth a couple weeks later than the adults, but you shoud be ok another week or 2 but it is getting awful late to do so now, not that it will kill the fawn, but stressing out does this time of year should be avoided at all cost, the fetus is growing alot now this month and when you dart a doe and she runs in panic she risk injury to the fetus if she hits something. I have no expierence with usuing the drugs referred to as B.A.M so I wont suggest to use it or not to use it, i used small dose of xylazine and ketamine this morning, just enough to get her to lay down so I could put her in a box, the move went well and she is grazing in a new pen now.

Just started using bam, I love it! I have moved around a dozen so far and it works great. Richard give me a call and I'll tell you all about it.

Thanks for the replies. I have a doe to move next weekend. Was just trying to decide which would be best for the doe. I can go out and dart her without getting her stirred up at all. If I try to live load it may put more stress on her than dsrting would have.

Firstly you shouldn't have a problem with darting your doe at this stage of pregnancy as long as you keep the capture, handling and transport as stress free as possible!! and by using BAM it will certainly help.

I have been using BAM on deer and other species for nearly 3 years, it is a great drug which I prefer greatly over Xylazine/Telazol, induction times are between 5 and 10mins, it is reversible with deer being on the feet at between 8 - 12mins. Smooth inductions and smooth state of anesthesia!!!

For those wanting more information on BAM you can call Wildlife Pharmaceuticals http://www.wildpharm.com/index.asp or have a look at the PDF on BAM at http://www.zoopharm.net/. The prices on BAM have also recently been reduced.

If anyone needs further information the can PM me.

The price of BAM has come down greatly! A kit was 550.00 but is 225.00 now.It cost around 20.00 per doe to knock down and reverse. I think it is far superior to xylazine/telazol,much smoother knock down and wake up and is immediately reversable.

You can tranq. between 7-8 does per bottle using their formulary of 1.5ml per doe. That cost would be $28 per doe. It is quite smooth and is reversible. The depth of anesth. is not as good as telozol but a good drug for transport. Cost of xylazine/telozol is approximately 2/3 of BAM.

We use 1cc per doe and it has worked great. It cost 20.45 to knock down and reverse one doe with bam and 20.26 per doe with xylazine/telazol. For 19 cents more I'll stick with bam
