What do you use for treats when in pens to help does get use to you and help calm them down?
 
We feed ours lots of the Dobbins/Purina Apple & Oats Horse Treats. I'm hoping apple prices stabilize so we can start treating them with apples again. They also love grapes as well. From time to time, we give them raw peanuts as an extra special treat.
 
Mine get two things. Sweet corn (when in season) I get to hand cut acres of it after the owner of the field picks it to sell to customers. Usually there is at least two ears left on each stalk. My deer get a quarter of a truckload a day, if I feed more than that they waste it by only eating the ears off and letting the stalk and leaves go to waste. My deer eat all but the thickest part of the stalk. The other treats I give: Bread and Bagels. They can't seem to get enough. We get weekly truckloads for free for the cattle and deer.Whole wheat, white, Rye. Plus cinnamon, raisin, lemon, and blueberry bagels. I usually feed 3 loaves a day to each of my 6 pens. I have had nothing but positive results from feeding bread for the last 2 years. The yeast in bread is good for the rumen, and it keeps a good body weight on my deer, not too skinny, but yet their not overweight.
 
We use to use Dobbins treats but our local TSC stopped carrying the big bags. Now we use raw peanuts and the most of the deer love them. There are a few that won't eat them though.
 
I use the Dobbins apple and oats treats as Fleet Farm started selling them now ! I used to get them from Tractor and Supply too , but now Fleet Farm ! Just a thought
 
We use raw peanuts and buy them in bulk from the feed mill. High in protein and they love them. Throw a few handfuls out there and they come up.
 
I give our deer carrots and apples...BUT i tell you..they go NUTS for leaves. I trim branches down and walk out in the pens rattling branches of leaves and they come RUNNING. I think honestly you can give them anything...it's about consistency and you will build their trust. Just my thoughts. Of course some deer will never come to ya lol
 
Golden deer nuggets, they are specifically designed for deer and work great. We use em to draw them in for darting medications\tranquilizers. Also use them the night before we want to run them to the chute to introduce\reintroduce them to the gate and and lanes.
