I have a yearling doe that had a large single fawn last saturday.she appears to be fine except she tore really bad during birth.she seems to be having trouble peeing i ran her thru the handling facility on wed. and gave her wormer,tetradure,3cc banimine,Ehd vac. still a little swollen and flies are around her girl junk,I put permitherin on her back to help with the flies.do you have any ideas what i could use to maybe wash her girl junk with to disinfect and help keep her clean. she is kitten tame and inspection of her is no problem! any help would be appriciated thanks

I would wash with soap and water, peroxide,Maybe. then neosporn on actual tear,it has neomycin in it then spray around, little on tail, with swat or simalar spray.not sure what best to reduce swelling, somebody will.Dc

We had 2 yearlings that tore badly....gave 3cc Tetradure twice for infection. Both took about 3 weeks to get their "girl" parts back to normal. Had infection coming out and everything.

Coming from a woman though, don't think I would use anything but water to clean and put some neosporin on like DC said for the tear. We did not put anything on our girls....tail seems to keep flies away. But probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Personally, I would stay away from putting fly spray on her as it may sting....make me cring just thinking about!!

Nolvassan liquid if you can get it. If not, betadine solution (should be able to get at any feed store) and saline (water if you don't have a choice, but saline is best), mix half and half. Use a large syringe to flush her ****** out and wash the whole area as best you can. Peroxide can be a little harsh on delicate tissue, and can promote scar tissue growth. Swat is a great idea, any topical cream/ointment like neosporyn or novalssan is good, but if on an external area where she can lick it, maybe not a good idea. Go with penicillin or other broad spectrum antibiotic, backed up with some probiotic paste for at least 3 days consecutive. Banamine or Dex will help with pain and inflamation, if she is nursing a fawn, go with the banamine. Probably 1/2 to 1 cc a day for 2 or 3 days.

Good luck.

Susan - we were typing at the same time. Tetradure or other tetracyclene is a great broad spec. antibiotic.

I always heard if it didnt burn it wasnt no good,Sure alchol wouldnt be better:eek:

I was thinking a ****** too Robbie, but didn't know anything about on deer. I would definitely read label on anything and if it says for external use only, wouldn't put where it could get inside her.

Hopefully, she heals like ours did....just watch she don't abandon fawn like ours did. So much pain, I think they said hell with the little monster that caused the pain.

thanks for all your replies, now i noticed that she kinda strains when she pees we noticed her sqauting trying to pee then while she was sqautted she would turn in circles while trying to go do yoy think she is still in pain ? could there still be some infection? what is SWAT and where do you get it ? neosporin outside area only?

Swat is fly spray for screw worms, and works great. but i think it multi purpose, i use screw worm aresol it is multi purpose, controls pest up to 4 weeks, just aruond helps,DO NOT SPRAY DIRECTLY IN EYES OR MOUTH OR GENITALIA OF PETS DC
