Early born fawns

Had a surprise today with two perfectly healthy buck fawns walking around the pen. The mom was a live bred 3 year old that had healthy buck twins on normal schedule last year. Just wondering if anyone has had such a early fawning ever. Like I said they are healthy but I didn't expect that.

Cool...What State?

They have a fake cycle sometimes in mid October and sometimes get bred. I have never heard of a doe being bred in mid September.. Lucky it's not April fools day yet. You would have a tough time with that post.

Earliest ever here was April 18 in the snow about 6 years ago. We are watching a few of our live bred mule deer that are bagging up already and looking large. Earliest for mule deer here was May 2

Wow That is unbelievable  I really dont want any fawns until this weather changes!  Good Luck

can you get a picture of them?

They are getting weak now so I pulled them and trying to get them back. Rain and cold weather ain't helping.

I actually saw a dead fawn along side the road last weekend. Which, even in the wild, I thought that was kind of early. It was in NW Ohio.

I have got their body temps back up and feed them red cap and bounce back but was questioning whether they received enough colostrum and wondering if anyone has used the colostrum replacer in powder from local fleet stores before?

How are the fawns doing MN nights are really cold I think you will have 2 bottle babies to take care of! Keep us updated on how they are doing! Thanks

The fawns are doing ok. They were fine this morning in barn then checked again 2 hrs later and one was groaning laying on its side totally limp. As we all know that's hard to reverse but I spent the day with them both and raised body temps and got plenty food down them and they now walk around and hold heads up fine. The worse one did look weak a while ago again but with food and bounce back he was right up again. Hopefully with time and care they stay healthy. Thanks for info guys

Well got up at 2am to feed and check on and only one fawn living and other barely hanging on. Probably the turning point for me as far as raising deer. It started out as a hobby from getting a deer givin to me then became a loving passion. But after losing a few fawns now over the 3 years and having dogs at my other location before we moved scare another to death it's just to much money to even get going. We have 3 kids and my wife just started working last early fall after finishing nursing school and we all know how expensive raising deer can be I just haven't got ahead. I have one 3 year old buck that didn't turn out the way I expected for the money and he is being used for breeding but I can't afford to buy the big names with deer dying. I'm not one to ever give up on something and maybe because it's 2 am but it is so frustrating putting all my money and attention into them and knowing I only have one 3 year old buck and a couple buck fawns that really aren't going to be these big money deer. I obviously didn't jump into it right like alot of you did but knowing you can't get no money back for years now to supplement some of the money spent is ruff. Feel like I failed. If you know me you know I live for whitetails whether it be hunting for a mature buck with my bow or raising the beautiful animals on my property. I have a hard time thinking of ever getting out of it and I don't think my wife or kids will let me. They are going to be bummed in the morning but we will see where to go from there. Thanks for any words and help you all had with these fawns.

Sorry to hear about your hardships in deer farming. We have all had a few for sure. I will tell you right now that you do not need big name "HYPE" genetics to succeed. Great deer are available for very reasonable prices right now. If you ever want to talk deer, feel free to give me a call any time. I can put you in touch with a few farmers that have great deer for sale at reasonable prices.

Same here man I know we all have those hardships. especially in this business but you don't need the big hype genetics. we do this because we enjoy whitetails so much and if you are happy with what you are producing that's all that matters. But like Brian said if you ever just want to kick back and talk deer you can give me a call or text anytime man.

Sounds like some real bad luck. Can't help you right now but later this summer we will have some great doe fawns and in the late fall some bred does that could really grow your herd. You appear to be raising deer for all the right reasons , Family , family ,family!, we have been raising since 1979 and have sure seen some tough times. You gotta hang in there. The experience and tribulations are on the way to the reward. I don't even know you but the price for a couple is free to you for doe fawns and we can work out the does bred for cost of semen. Make sure you are talking to me through out the summer.

Every one that raises deer had times when they feel like throwing in the towel and Quitting!  I remember when neighbors dogs came over and I lost my breeder buck!  I was so angry that I wanted to quit!  You hear deer farmers wanting to help others all the time.  Here's my offer to you if you want it or you can pass as well!

I will let you have the first two doe fawns born in Bullet Proofs pen if you take them and bottle feed them!  They most likely will be out of AMMUNITION daughters    Please reply back even if you dont want them, OK buddy  I don't have very big names but I like to think I have Big Deer!  ha ha

Bullet Proof is the first picture, Ammunition is the second one

Wow guys I really appreciate all the kind words and offers. Like I said I don't like failure and the 2am bad news got to me after I put them to sleep looking perfectly normal. I haven't really gathered my contacts yet to make it a business and still have much to learn but I do know a few guys here in sw Mn that have Farms also. I will be contacting a couple of you about future purchases. Thanks again and I hope all your guys fawning seasons start out better than mine!

Same here Mile Creek get ahold of me this spring sometime and I could probably set you up with a doe fawn or two out of Big 10 on some really solid girls. Im not a very large farm but I know what I got produces and am always willing to help a fellow farmer in times of hardship. I posted some pictures of Big 10 below. He is only a 2 year old but he is showing promise already for what he is going to be at 3.
