Hello we have a small farm in Kentucky and we are having deer die everyday with no signs of sickness before deaf. Is EHD this quick of a deaf or could this be something else? One day the deer will be fine and healthy the next day one dead. About a week before theses deafs we had a buck looking sick so we bamed him and gave him 5 cc excide 8 cc banimene his tempure was 102.8. Also squirted 5 cc vitamin Bin his mouth as soon as reversal was injected. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

What part of Kentucky. sounds like pneumonia. They can be fine and dead within 4 hours. Although with that said ehd can do the same. If you have any wet areas in your pens or close by spray them with diesel fuel.

Mount sterling KY, we have had problems with pneumonia in the past. After removing one of the dead animals form the pen when its head fell downward out of the tractor bucket tons of blood started flooding out of it's nose(around a quart). We've had them die of pneumonia and we never noticed blood flowing out of the nose. Is that normal?

We have lost 5 to EHD so far. Very similar to your situation. I took one to VA Tech for a necropsy and they confirmed it. It was worth the $77 to know what we were fighting. Maybe there is a vet college near you that could identify your exact problem.

Definitely EHD if seeing blood. Banamine rarely works with EHD. It is a blood thinner. Dexamethazone in either 24mg/cc or 48mg/cc is what most use. Knocking down with BAM usually kills them with EHD. You might get lucky using MK but knocking down with EHD they often never get back up. We are now treating ours with 2.5cc 48mg dex & 2.5cc Excede in a 5cc dart on first indication. 24hrs later we are using 2.5cc dex and 2.5cc draxxin. We kind of wing it from there. Excede alone wasn't enough to ward off post EHD pneumonia. If it's a deer we can run we are giving vitamins sometimes Micotil in place of Draxxin. What works is slightly different every year so you have to try a few things to figure out what is going to work any given year. Pay attention to genetics that are surviving. We lost all our AI yearlings bucks this year. So going back to live breeding another year.
