NEWALLA OKLAHOMA
hey i just got my ehd vaccine and was wondering if it was ok to shoot my bred does right now or would you guys wait till they fawn?

I was told by my vet it would be ok to dart the vaccine. Rocking H no damage at our place it missed us to the east and the west so we really lucked out i heard you guys got hit i hope every thing is ok.

It is a little late to vaccinate if your fawns are due in late may/early June. As you probably know, the doe needs a booster in 2 weeks then it is an additional 2-3 weeks before immunity can be expected. This would have her not getting immunity until after the fawns are born. I would hesitate to expect any carry-over in the titer from only one injection. Just my opinion.

all does were given a vaccine around easter when i bought them and i just got my vaccine from the vet and was wanting to give them another shot but was affraid of shooting them this late in their pregnancy i will be giving the fawns a shot when they are born aswell.

We give our does a 2cc shot in Febuary when we run them thru the barn. Then give fawns a 2cc shot on the 4th of july then 10 days later we booster it again. Then we bring does in and thier buck fawns into the barn early in the morning we let the fawn go thru the chute and vac them then we get the doe in our box before the chute then we have a door on that box that swings in we use it as a press to push them to the side of it and give them thier shots. We do this so as to not drop the lactating doe and cause possible injury to thier udder! Then we repeat process in 10 days has worked well for us ! Best of luck!
