I have a 1 1/2 year old doe that had ehd in September and survived but she is still walking like her feet are very tender. The feet are not swollen. Is this normal and should I do something for her?

I was under the impression blue tongue made the feet tender. I was not aware EHD did the same. Can anyone clarify if both diseases cause feet problems for me.

I have had their hooves get ridges on them like you get when you smash your thumb real bad. And just like your thumb nail does their hoof will grow new underneath the dead hoof and the old will fall off. I have a buck fawn going through this right now. As you would expect he is my best so I hope it doesn't hurt his antlers next year.

the fever associated with ehd will cause fever lines in hooves - they will crack and a lot of time the hoof will come off - watch for infection as dirt gets under the loose hoof that has not come off yet - if swelling occurs you need to get meds quickly

Is there a vaccine or anyway to help prevent your deer herd from catching EHD?

There is a vaccine but vaccinating for the right strain seems to be a big guess. Most in Alabama vaccinated for the Missouri strain but still got bit.
