I recieved a fawn in today that has been attacked by a dog. The fawn drags its rear end around. She can move one of her legs really good and kicks but only goes in circles. The other leg does move, but very little. She has bites on her rear back area near her spine. If she had a broke back would she be able to move her legs at all? I was even thinking maybe her pelvic bone was broke or maybe there's swelling on the spine. The people that found her had her for about 3 days and I recieved her in about an hour ago. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would certainly get conformation from Liz, but my first thought on this is Dex, Selenium, probiotics, and pray. Good luck.
Dr. McBride, a well known deer vet out of Burnett, Tx, reccommends Bo-Se (not MU-SE), Banamine, Dex, and B12. I've had 66% success rate with this (2/3) for capture myopathy.
Do all the above mentioned and the only thing I would add would be an antibiotic if it was attacked. Did you palpate the neck, spine and pelvis for fractures? You should be able to feel a deformity. If it is just swelling from trauma the Dex should take it down in a few days.

Unfortunately alot of rehabbers can't afford to x-ray fawns as we get in so many injured ones from attacks and struck by cars. Some, like me, are fortunate to have vets that will do the work for next to nothing but it can get quite expensive if you have no one willing to do it cheap.
