i had a fawn that didn't seem to be eating so I darted with a shot of draxon. I think when I darted I hit the hip bone or something. the draxon seemed to work she is hungry and eating but now right at the ankle joint on back foot is folded back and she walks on the skin part of foot . Is it worth trying to splint or anything?

Been darting the rump since 1979 and only once had a problem with a dart that hit low. We are very patient when darting and don't stretch our shots out over 50 yds. We occasionally dart a wormer in the neck with 1/2" needles where the hair is shorter to maximize the effect of the tri-port pneu darts

The rump shot is the safest shot you can take in my opinion. Neck you have smaller target, spinal shot, shoulder blade, jugular. I save this shot for my big full winter coated bucks. Give your girl a baytril/banamine dart and monitor. Ryan
we all have our preference but I have noticed when darting adult bucks It works best FOR ME if they are darted in the neck The tranq works better! Everyone should do what they think is best! Ive been doing this almost 20 years and darted 100's of deer Ive never had a leg issue when darted in the neck! JUST MT FEW CENTS

If she is tame I'd isolate her and splint the lower leg joint. If not she will walk on the top of the foot and get it infected, no way to stop that. I had a fawn that kicked when getting a shot an stuck the femoral nerve, it did the same thing as your deer, foot folded under. We splinted the lower leg/foot joint. It healed in maybe a month. Pain in the rear but it works.

I usually dart in the hindquarter, from the side only, never from the rear. I will sometimes dart in the shoulder, never had a problem there. A fawn is too small to be shooting a dart into the neck, in my opinion.
IM shots go into the shoulder area, sometimes in the hindquarter. SQ shots between the shoulders on top.
