We have a doe fawn that is three days old. Last night when we pulled her to bottle feed we noticed that she was walking really funny. Upon futher investigation her two front legs and one back leg at the first knuckle are not extended they are facing towards her hind end. They are all scuffed up from walking that way, and we tried to extend them and they are super stiff. Have never had a fawn with this any advise would be apprichiated! Thanks! P.S. Her twin sister does not have this problem.

Wrap or splint them in the proper direction for a few days. This should stretch out the tendons. It doesn't take much to fix this for the animal. She should be OK in a few days. Watch that you don't cut off circulation in the foot, if it gets cold you need to re-wrap it looser.

I got a message from a very nice lady about the fact I didn't explain why this more that likely happened. As an old timer in this business I tend to assume the people know these things. Sorry about that. Thank you Amanda.

The reason this fawn is doing this is more than likely a selenium deficiency caused the problem and the fawn should have a shot of Bo-se about 1/2cc to 1cc.

In foals we give oxytetracycline 1-3 days depending on the response. Most foals will straighten up over time. Some are so contracted they cannot stand or die during foaling. Has anyone used oxytet in fawns for contracted tendons?

sorry for late response, just getting here :) We mix 1 cc La200 with 10 cc LRS or sterile water and give it slowly iv with good success when caught early, usually 1 treatment but not to exceed 3
