Fawn with possible Coccidia

I posted the other day about a fawn with scours. She was only getting worse after I did all the treatments for scours. I called the vet yesterday because she was really cold and skin and fur, no fluid. He said she was dying of shock and probably had Coccidia. It wasn't looking good but Give her 2ccs of corid a day for a week. She seemed a little better last night. This morning she is back down hill. I have been giving her gatoraide in between feedings. But I think maybe I should stop giving her the formula and just feed her the gatoraide. Or maybe I should go get pedialite and give her just that. Anyone have any suggestions. I am trying all I can to save this fawn, but I am running out of hope. I have her under a lamp to warm her up, and I ordered "all natural" to stop the runs. The all natural should be here today. Any help would be very much appreciated!!!

I had one with scours and blood in stool. I quit giving corid bceause some

was of the opinion that albon worked better. So i switched and so far everything is better. I got it at one of the local vets gave approx 1 ml

per day in bottle. Have they checked for e-coli?

I just had a fawn I was treating with Albon for coccidia and it would not get better. I did a fecal culture and sent it to be tested and it tested very pos. for e-coli. The lab can also test what drugs it is sensitive to and it was only sernsitive to Naxcel and one other. It threw me off because e-coli usually has a distinct smell and I havent seen it with bloody stools. We treated with Naxcel and put it on a different electrolyte and it is getting much better.

If it is coccidia ALBON is the best chance you have at curing the fawn. I have used it several times, and had great success. The fawns like the taste of the ALBON, so there is no problem in making sure they get it all. Many times I have also treated for e-coli at the same time, just as a precaution.



I have had coccidia and e-coli problems in the past. Sometimes if a fawn is pretty sick I would treat for both problems to save time. I don't know what the e-coli medication is called, but it only took about 5 drops a day given at one dose each morning.



I usually have one or two fawns a year that come down with these problems. This year I vaccinated at birth with 2cc C&D anti-toxin and 2cc Alpha 7. I vaccinated with these to prevent clostridial problems. It seems to have helped prevent other digestive problems also, such as coccidia and e-coli. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but hey If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

We have had the same problems with two fawns. OSU just sent their test results and it is e-coli. They have recommended exconel for treatment. I tried Albon and had limited results with it. I can feel your pain in dealing with this. Good luck

Just wanted to thank everyone for there help today. My wife was in a real panic, she spoke with Roger on the phone and he sent her in the right direction and calmed her down (glad he was able to calm her all I got from her on the phone was abunch of crying and being told the fawns not going to make it and this is why she cant do this ) hopefully the fawn will pull through thanks again Ed

I am a Wildlife Rehabilitator that has been rehabbing Fawns for 10 years. I have 7 Fawns in together. One tested positive for Coccidia. I treated with Albion then SMZ in the water. I saw great results on the 2nd day of the 5 day treatment.
My question is, what do I treat my soil with to rid the Coccidia once the Fawns are released? I have heard a 10% solution of Ammonia. Does anyone have any information on what can be used?
