fawn with ripped ear

we have a 4 week old fawn buck on mother with ripped ear and swollen . what would be the best to trank him with ( we are going to try and catch it first , that should be fun) . and what amount of meds can these little boys take

run him in to fence you wont need trank!?

Use a long handle dip net or use a section of shade cloth to crowd him slowly into a corner were you can catch him.

Watch for infection and spray with fly spray. Ear infections can be nasty if not treated soon enough.

I had to dart two, month old fawns last year that mom died. It was far less stress on them and the others in the pens than chasing them. There's a huge risk either way.



I used a 1cc dart with 1/4cc telazole, filled it the rest of the way with sterile solution.



I have also done the same thing with just a 1/4cc dose of xylazine. This will just make them weak/sleepy, and easier to catch.

If there is no rotten flesh I would clean it, and blue coat.

Fawns can easily take 1cc baytril or Pen. If there is no infectection i would suggest the baytril first. If he gets infected in a few days just use the same dart suggestion, ony with 1cc multiPen
