hello we are new to this site and new to deer farming. any help would be much appreciated. we have two fawns that are unable to walk. they are two months old and are holding there heads up and pee and poop good. we treated with penicillin and gave them an iv. there temps were 103.7 when we found them but now there temps are down to 101.5. I have read a few of the forums on this but not sure which route to take. thiamine bose baking soda? we are new to deer farming and would appreciate help with this issue. thanks in advance.

the fawns were doin fine and seemed to be in good physical shape walking running etc no change in diet. we found them just laying down and when I got near them they couldn't stand up. they are eating and drinking fine. since they are in the pens with the does and bucks is there a possibility they could have been injured by a doe or buck? their food hasn't changed. I have given them penicillin and an iv. there temp is good 101.5. they seem alert with no other problems. breathing is good pee and poop good no scours. would it be ok to give b12 shot also. thank you for your help and your advice is appreciated

I'm not sure where to go on this one. It's always a possibility that they got stepped on. I had it happen this year and thought the fawn was done for but she came around. She just layer there for a few days. I made some shelters out of old chemical totes and I layer her in one of those and evey time I went out there she was laying in there in the same spot but one day she wasn't in there so she is doing fine now.
that's what we are thinking on the same line possible injury in the pens. they are both in the house until we can see an improvement. I have a question . I keep reading in the forums about using a med called bo-se or bose and banamine what are they used for and is there a shot to give to new born fawns at the time you ear tag them. we tag the fawns the second day of being born. thank you for taking your time to answer my questions it is very appreciated.

I'm not sure what that's used for. I don't give my fawns anything till I run them through when I separate them

Bo-Se is for a selenium deficiency and is called white muscle disease. They lose the ability to stand but look good otherwise but will die unless given some Bo-SE. I would guess if you are in a selenium deficient area this might be your problem.

where can I get bo-se from and is that the abbreviated name for this med? do I need my vet to get it for us or can it be bought over the counter. thanks for all your advice. hopefully I can give them a dose before its too late. what are the dosings and can or do I give it to them every day for so many days and do I give them one dose a day. rj and jack I appreciate your advice on this issue.

Bo-Se requires a Vet prescription so get it from your Vet. He will know the amount to give for your area and the amount of times.
I had it in my lambs a few years back and gave it a few times but most did lay around for a week or two. We now give a shot at a week old to lambs. I think it could be given even at birth.
