Fencing?

24px 2f4f4fHome Depot wants to make a large donation to the park in terms of fencing and posts.

I've looked on their site and all I see for an option is Farmgard's 48x100 ft. doubled up vertically to make 8 ft for the park's internal fence. The 2x4 inch openings would leave room for the public to feed the deer through but I'm not sure this will be tough enough. It's a welded wire 12 gauge. Our deer are rarely stressed enough to be bouncing off the fencing...even when we dart. I'm sick of the chain link...it's too hard to maintain. This would look cleaner...give the kids more room for their hands to fit in and feed. Home Depot doesn't have great options for fencing so I'm trying to work within their parameters.....especially if it's all free! But I also can't use something that just won't work for the deer, either:)

WHat do ya think?

I'm by no means an expert BUT i'll offer up my opinion :) If stacking the fence meets code I'd say go for it. I would maybe put the posts a little closer together and fasten the seam together somehow but i would do it for sure. Farmgard will allow the children (and adults for that matter) to easily feed and pet through the fence allowing for a better closer experience. Worse case scenario put the doubled up fence on the interior to split pens or what not. Good luck

I have used 4' chain link put on top of each other for a bottlefeeding pen I bound it together every foot with hog rings. They are very strong and pretty cheap. It worked out good. I agree with the posts closer together though also. My big question is how do I get sponsored by Home Depot for posts? Lol no good luck with you project

DEE, If you are exhibiting you cannot use 4X2 welded  wire. Michigan changed their fence to 10 foot  fixed knot 20-96-6-12.5 and is required for the lower 8 feet of new construction.Existing facilities must use woven wire.  Our exhibit had 4x2 welded but being 60 years of exhibiting we were grand fathered in.This law went into effect 7/1/2008 and all existing fences had to comply by that date.

Even for the internal fence?

Our perimeter fence is 10' chain link.

If you are double fenced  with 10 foot chain link around your perimiter I believe your pens can be  at 8 foot with any type of wire . You would have to check with the DNR.
