I am just getting into the deer business and would like to know if there is such a thing as deer financing.I know that it could be a touchy idea for some people because there are some people that might not be so honest.Just getting started is hard to do if you want to start out with real good animals. It will cost a guy the same amount to feed a so-so deer as it would to feed a real good deer.I would rather pay a farmer a little more for their deer over time with a contract than feed a so-so deer.It also might help a farmer move some deer in these slow times. It could be a win-win situation for the right two farmers.I know there is alot of honest deer farmers out there and i would like to work with some.Any info would help be it a good idea or mabey not so much! just a thought!! Thanks

I understand what you are saying...

I was thinking about partnering up because it is hard to keep up in the race for new bloodlines... semen...land... ect ...

I was a single mom and just the fees and dues to the different groups can kill you let alone feed, advertising, medicine, milk, facility, fence, semen storge, ect...

The problem is who do you trust...to stand beside you and behind you and your deer...

The same with financing.

Deer are a different kind of monster...They need a lot of up keep or you both could end up very unhappy.

You would have to cover a lot of bases financing deer ...but it could be done With Great care on both parts...

Just my thoughts:rolleyes:

Unforseen situations could be a wrench in the process. Things like job loss, disease, dog harassment, and even theft. Cover your bases or be willing to take the bullet if someone has to bite it. Then again, if you trust someone and build the relationship it is possible a handshake is all you need: however, you never know how someone might act until amidst diversity.

I just didnt know if that was done or not.I have a couple fawns started and the fence is up and im good to go.Im way up in ny and 200 class deer are just about unheard of.AI is not done with any success and really nobody to get any help from except the computer!I would like to do a deal with a good person with good deer to help me get started.I know you guys have alot of money in your deer and i know they are worth every penny but its hard for a new farmer to get in anywhere near good deer without putting up the house!

You might be a red neck deer farmer if...... your deer handling facility is worth more than your house

Thanks for the input,I just didnt know if any off you guys that have been in this for awhile have done anything like that or if it was even an option.I see at some auctions you pay so much down then the rest at pickup. So i didnt know if anyone ever did a deal on time.I know its hard to trust people in this day but it seems like all the deer farmers i have met are topnotch people and i thought it might work with the right people.

You can do it without financing your deer. You may not be producing 250" yearlings. My wife and i started with (3)decent bred doe, and went from there. All of our doe we bought where bred. After the first year we bought a better doe, then the next year we bought an even better doe. Finally last year we bought a very well bred buck fawn and bet the farn on him to be our breeder (lets keep our fingers crossed). But even with the not so good doe we have they all produced decent yearling and two year olds and we have sold one shooter this year and next year we should have 3 or 4 more. But the point Im trying to make as i keep running on and on is it will take longer but you can eventually catch up and have good producing deer. Good Luck,

I would suggest calling around and talking to people in PA. There are a ton of great deer there and they are close to you. You can find some well bred deer for $2000 to $3000. Also I saw that the James in MO are about to post a big sale of bred does on whitetail exchange and I looked over the list of bred does and there are some good ones at lower prices. There are alot of people that will work with you on payment, but usually they want all the money before you get the deer. You might work out a deal to leave the deer at their farm until you get it paid for and pay them a fee. Most people will work with you.

B100888, I got my start in the deer business with 3 bred does all good 200+ genetics. I have just sold the last of those does @ the chupps sale a couple of weeks ago.It has been a good experience for my family and i being new to the deer business and also a profitable one.But i would not be were i'm today a short 3 yrs later with out the help of others both local and across the country good relationships built and a commitment by me and others to always stand by our word, some times just phone calls and faith in the person on the other end, you kinda have to be old school like my parents always said life is really black and white by this i only mean it's either right or its wrong, its only a grey area if we choose to not be open and honest with each other.A local amish deer farmer who has helped me beyond words always tells me to get were we want to be we have to help someone by returning the help given to you or me along the way. If you need some help getting going give me a call @ 660-646-5997 no strings attached,no sales pitch,no hey i got this deer for sale! if you are interested give me a call and i will offer you help or information on anything or anyway i can.I by no means claim to be the greatest deerfarmer, salesman or have all the answers may not have to say what you want to hear but i will be honest. In my short time in this business i have learned that is one thing you can't put a price on. if you or anyone else is interested or need someone to talk to give me a call.If not thats ok to thanks and good luck!

888 We are in NY too. Just south of Rochester. We have 200 inch deer, and justed started AIng last year to bigger deer. Our breeder buck was 204 at 2yrs. And topped out about 240 at 4. We have great does out of him you may be interested in. Everyone wants the bucks but remember does give about 60% of the genetics. Give us a call. Come see our farm. Maybe we can work something out. 585-943-3700

B100888 Almost forgot All our animals are bottle fed so very friendly. Of course there are bottle fed and then there are bottle fed. Some are in your back pocket and some are standing back to see what you want. We are an accedited heard. With 6yr CDW status. We were in the CWD program before they offically started the program. Our last herd TB test was 3/09 so our animals won't need to be tested again until 3/12. I love to show off my deer because they are just the greatest. If you ever have any questions or need help please just give us a call.
