flies

I mix in garlic powder with their feed, and I will also randomly spray permetherin in the pens, once every couple weeks.

how much garlic powder do you put in per ton?  I spray Artic which is Strong Permetherin every 2 weeks that really knocks the population down!  Thanks JIM

I eyeball it, and use about 1-2 cups, per 50# bag of feed. I will also use some type of vegetable or peanut oil, to get the garlic powder to stick to the feed, because if not, a lot of times the deer will pick around it, and you'll only have garlic powder left in the feeder.

Somebody had suggested to use dog's frontline or other flea/tick spot on and I did that on the ones I can touch. Worked great. Ivermectin Pour On, 5 mg, works too and de-worms at the same time. There is an off-brand name bottle available at Jeffers (pet, livestock, equine catalogs), cost less than half of Ivermectin brand.

I am at war with the flies. My biggest problem is I am located next to a cow/calf operation, so there is an endless food supply and opportunity for hatch of the flies. The deer get the short end of the stick. I have been tending to the problem vigorously for a few weeks now, with mediocre improvement. Permethrin, fly traps, garlic and Aureomycin are all in play. The cows are not going to leave, so I feel like rather than trying to keep the flies away from the deer, I just need to kill the flies. Sooner or later, I will win. I am thinking about fogging. I know very little about the practice, so I am looking for advice. By all means, please chime in if another process will yield similar results. Thank you in advance for your help.
