Everyone needs to send a comment in on the issue of Florida closing its borders. We all know CWD is being used politically to close this state's borders and it is up to each and everyone of us to respond in writing or attend the hearing to testify. It's going to be one state at a time if we do not go on the attack starting right now. Keep your comments professional at all times.

FWC Proposes Rule Affecting Importation of Deer [FL]

By Florida Sportsman Editor

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) wants to hear from deer enthusiasts and those who have deer farms or hunting preserves about a proposed rule change that would prohibit the importation of live captive deer into Florida from out-of-state sources.

The change is being proposed in an effort to reduce the chances of chronic wasting disease (CWD) being introduced into the state. CWD is not known to affect people.

The disease, which has been discovered in 22 states, two Canadian provinces and in South Korea, is a contagious neurological disease affecting deer, elk and moose. It is similar to mad cow disease, always fatal, and there is no known cure or vaccine for the animals.

The rule-change proposal will go before the Commission at its June 13 meeting in Lakeland, and the FWC encourages all those who have an interest to go to http://www.MyFWC.com/Deer and select "Captive Cervids" to read about what is being proposed and offer any comments, questions or concerns they may have.

I also shared a lengthy comment. Good Luck Florida, I really hope and pray your boarders don't close. When people sit back and look at things, do they even realize that this is America, we are supposedly the land of the free....Why the heck do we keep loosing freedom after freedom. To most non deer farmers they really don't care, it doesn't involve them, but our forefathers would care! They would be sick over this. I get so tired of wildlife agencies, our deer are our deer, not yours.. let us keep the darn things and do with as we please....its our Freedom (for now)! I think this industry should be run like any other livestock operation. no exceptions, after all, our deer are born ON A FARM.

I left my comment but just so you all know this is being introduced and pushed by a few wealthy guys in the deer business in Florida. There is one association that doesn't support this bill and one that does. You need to figure out which is which and support the open border guys. The guys working to close it bought a ton of northern deer and now they don't want to compete.

Yes there are few hundred farms there. That's what it was a couple of years ago when this same thing started and I had heard it was about to make another run through the channels. All the people that have been raising cane on here about the standards and rule that I believe is making CWD rules better in most states need to sink their teeth into this fight. These border issues are a lot more damaging than the rule and standards.

Yes Sir! Closed borders might be the norm in the near future if some things dont change soon!

Yes and they learned this all in Montana. Montana closed it's boarders in 1990 to whitetail, then over mengenia worm scare. With the CWD scare it was easy to keep them closed to whitetail. They learned they could take away parts of the industry and it wouldn't be a takings so they didn't have to pay anyone to close down the industry. You see when a DNR license is issued it is a privilege and they can change the license as nothing is guaranteed with the license. They learned they could kill the industry. The final killing of the industry is taking away the reason for our animals which was our humane harvest facilities. The breeder market will die on it's own if we can't harvest our livestock. In Montana we have faded away to 25 elk farms and one deer farm from around 140 farms. Lesson here is the industry if it loses these fights State to State we will all have pets. We are all in this fight so get off your butts and everyone send letter where they are needed. Stop thinking someone else will do it for you.

Tim, If that was a question to me on the bucks I appreciate the offer and help. I did sell my big buck whitetail for this fall. I will have some young bucks around 120 to 130 if anyone is interested. Thanks for trying to help. Jack

Tim,

Well I sold 10 or 12 mulie bucks from 150 to 190 also so I'm sold out of them. We did breed my mule deer to a 280 SCI 38 inch wide mule buck with LAP AI and it looks like 90% took.

We did well on the fawn from last year which are out of a 230 SCI 39 wide buck. I'm going to LAP AI those to the 280 SCI mule buck.

I just sold all my 2013 back up fawn so all in all it will be a good year for me even though my DNR is making life a pain in the A**.

Jack

Jack I want to buy a bunch of your muley doe's or doe fawns out of your ai program as soon as possible. ----Charlie. It has been great down here as well.

Tim,

I also sold all my older does LAP AI'd to these nice bucks for pick up this Dec. What I did was keep all the new genetics from 2012 and 2013 for my new mule deer breeding herd. I will be LAP AI'ing the yearling does from the 230 SCI to the 280 SCI buck. Depending on how well I do will determine if I have any for sale in 2014. At this time I have no advance sale on the 2014 fawns. The one good thing about the mule deer is there is always a sale for them. I have been collecting semen from very nice bucks in the 200 inch size for the last 15 years. I consider the 280 inch buck to be like Maxbo because that is the top typical mule deer out there. Call me and we can talk.

Jack
