Fogging for EHD

Time to start thinking about EHD prevention. Last year many deer farmers turned to a ULV fogger to protect their deer against EHD. While nothing is 100% fool proof, we received excellent results from fogging. You can also control your flies & insect to relieve stress from pregnant does and protect your bucks during antler growth. This is a small investment at $2,395 to save and protect your herd.....Thousands of deer were killed last year by EHD. Early prevention, starting in the spring with the proper chemicals and a fogging maintenance program can help you maintain a healthy deer herd. This fogger is also safe to use around fawns, pets, gardens and stable areas.......Feel free to call or email with any questions!!!

Wayne,

Last year we bought a fogger after losing numerous deer to EHD and fogged morning and night, finally stopping the midge. I would recommend everybody out there who has experienced EHD, or even if they haven't experienced EHD yet, and do not own a fogger, it is money well spent. Because when EHD hits, its about the only chance you have of controlling it. Even though we did not get our fogger through you Wayne, I had talked to you on the phone after the fact that I had bought mine and, like I said, it is money well spent and no deer farmer should be without one because sooner or later they will experience EHD. Here at Goodman's Whitetail Haven we have put together our own misting systems and will be soon putting one in every pen and I would advise other breeders to do the same. Not only will the misting system take care of EHD, but it will take stress from flies and other blood suckers away from the whole herd. In my opinion, get yourself a fogger.

Mick, we are in the middle of EHD Every year at my farm in south Alabama..... As you stated you will not regret purchasing a fogger it is money well spent. If you need any help on chemicals feel free to contact me.

GOOD LUCK & GOOD HEALTH TO ALL ........Last year was a killer for a lot of farms......

how often do you have to fog? and what does the chemical cost per gallon? we are in west Virginia and near a creek and pond but so far no deer lost. My aunt did get some eggs that hatch on the deer dung and that helped some on flys but not sure on the midge? thanks

We fog daily until EHD starts which is about June and then we move to twice a day. Chemical cost will run between $27 to $40 a gallon depending on purchase quantity.

The eggs you spoke we're probably Fly Predators they won't stop EHD. Count yourself lucky if you haven't had EHD but the odds are against you, it can hit you at any time.

how much chemical is used per day? and how do you keep the chem from landing on the deers food and water source? also do you move the fogger to different locations? thanks

Do you mist the deer in the barn if applicable or is it for use on the foliage and grasses where the midge is present out in the pens?

On an average 5 gallons of chemical would fog 5 acres for about 40 to 45 days. It is EPA proved and save to use in the pens, barns, stables, around pets & gardens. It is perhaps the lowest impact chemical available with the best bang for your buck on killing the deadly midgets. The key is to use a 2 to 1 ration of PBO-8 to permethrin at a strength of 3% to 4% permethrin and 6% to 8% PBO-8. I use it during fawning season and fog the barn that fawns are bottle fed in also.

The biggest mistake most deer farmers are making is with their chemical selection. They are being ill-advised as to the correct chemicals & strength to use.

I know for a fact premethrin is viscous to flys fleas an ticks

Permethrin is a common synthetic chemical, widely used as an insecticide, acaricide, and insect repellent. It belongs to the family of synthetic chemicals called pyrethroids and functions as a neurotoxin, affecting neuron membranes by prolonging sodium channel activation. It is not known to rapidly harm most mammals or birds, but is dangerously toxic to cats[1][2] and fish. In general, it has a low mammalian toxicity and is poorly absorbed by skin.

we have a creek near by would hate to have a fish kill? Is this the main Ingredient in the fogger spray?

I'm not sure what his spray is but we use it because of our dogs and chickens an it is amazing but yes it is deadly to fish an cats alike but we are no where near a water source! We bathe our dogs in it not a flea or tick one kills mosquitoes also gnats we love it an will use it with our deer if necessary!

thanks :) we have dogs too.

I have fogged the last 2 nights with my new guardian 55 sprayer.

even with a strong south wind on yesterday fog seemed to hang around and no bugs at dark. really impressed thanks Wayne.

Thanks for the report, I'm getting calls daily from people using the Guardian fogger and they are getting great results. You just can't beat this fogger & the Honda engine is the best on the market, one pull and it cranks every time !!!

Anybody that needs one just give me a call.......$2,395.00

My only concern about the fogging is my family inhaling it too.....if the stuff hangs around in the air wouldn't anyone who is outside be breathing this in.....my pens are fairly close to the house.......or does the stuff settle pretty quick?

I love my fogger ,the fog hangs high so I don't belive you breath that much ,its no worse than this 6000.00 spray sytem that ive got to clean the nozzles on or change because they leak every other day and get permeth and pbo running down my arms and in my mouth ,the foggers a lot cheaper and uses way less chemicals ,thanks for the help wayne, and trust me when you start losing 15-20 deer to ehd the last thing you will be worried about is cats and fish

Got a call from a friend of mine today. He is a vet in Texas and said EHD has showed up & raised its ugly head already this year. He has several deer that are showing the signs. He placed his order for a fogger this morning........

Anyone needing one give me a call or drop me an email.......

Fogging every night guardian seems to be doing a great job on all insects other than the horse flys any suggestions?
