Genetics Question

Brett, the key word for me in your question were CONSISTENTLY PRODUCING. I have seen 300+ genetics only produce 160 class deer. I'm not sure any deer can or will consistently produce a certain class of offspring. PA Geronimo, Maxbo, Loner, Max, Highroller, Sundance All the great producers have an off day when it comes to producing. The right crosses come from a lot of trail and error. They do produce but a bad apple is always a chance.

you never know, I have seen a buck produce a some of 250+ and one 325+ ,the buck scored 150+. to answer your question ... 6-7 generations ..... you have to be hard on your doe stock keep only your best in your foundation program, your young multi-generation AI or proven genetics ( early in your program if a doe has a 180+ two year old she is in the herd,treat her daughters as if they were gold ) if you find a buck early in your AI program that works with your does( AI with the same deer for two consectutive years) if your results look promising then find a half or 3/4 brother to cross with and stick to your program...no matter what the flavor of the day is. You can now back cross to the orginal buck and solidify your foundation.The third year is decision time whether to continue te program.... if it's working....or start over with a new program... different genetics.

If you have a doe thats not producing good bucks would you cull her and her doe offspring.
