thank you,

Aaron.

Hi Aaron,

I really liked an idea that Don posted a while ago. I would be willing to give you some does free of charge in trade for a few buck fawns out of them. Call me sometime and we can discuss it.

im not wanting a monster buck with a $10,000.00 pedigree. just a decent buck to get me started.

Aaron,

I think ot awesome you are greeting in the deer farming.....however, I am a little concerned you may not be certain of what your getting into.....have you figured out if you will be able to afford feeding them everyday? I only say this because I know someone who cant afford to feed their deer and have them on bread cause they get it for free and the deer look terrible......just make sure you sit down and factor in all of then costs before you get yourself in a bind.....it sounds like your are on Avery limited budget and if this is the case I would be carful about trying to raise deer .....I don't want to discourage you just want to make sure you know what your getting into........deer cost money to raise with the daily feed and then you need to factor in the medications as well as vet costs.........I hope everything works out for you...

how often do they need a vet check? and what normal meds do they need? i was told feed runs about 300 a ton. i havnt really looked into that yet just trying to gey everything figured out. im not wanting to have a 100+ herd or hunting preserve just a herd of about 20-30 in the end would make me a happy american! any help would be appreciated. i have all the post i need at my friends sawmill. just need the fencing. my partner (mom) is gonna help me get my permit if i get my pen built she really dont think i can do this so i really want to prove her wrong. if any one has a extra roll or two of wire laying around i know its not cheap. but i would be willing to work out a deal with ya. im trying to fence in an acre. im not sure how many feet of fence i would need but just a rectangle acre. about 100x200 maybe. or whatever size to make an acre. but please let me know and thanks for the advise dennis. i appreciate it!

ok. well i think i can handle that. its just getting everything going is the tuff part. i cant afford everything i need to get my pen built. ill admit im NOT wealthy at all. i am 23 yrs old most of my money and time goes to my 6 kids. i really believe i can make something out of a little bit of nothin.

My deer feed is about 600/ton. I also agree to the cost of about 500 per deer per year, NOT including vet call and or drugs an supplements. 30 deer go through about 1 and a half tons per month.

Fence is running about 400 a roll for 8x330 foot roll. Posts are @15 each. Gates are 200 each.

TB testing every 3 years, dart gun, drugs, CWD costs, etc. It adds up pretty quick.

Start with a few bred does an you'll be over 20 deer before you know it.

With 1 acre? Is this just the first pen with lots more room to expand in the future?

Fairdinkum mate, spend a bit more time thinking about it.See if you can lend a hand at a few farms & get a bit of a feel for whats required.

Cheers Sharkey
