My Wife in years back recalled a litter of Labrador puppies that had contracted Giardia & after reading a few post in regards to the symptoms of Giardia in Fawns/Deer have raised some consern myself.
This being said, have almost eliminated the possible Coccidia
5 fawns total that had light yellow to light brownish oily to mucus based watery stool that appears to be "floating", not wanting to finish bottles at feeding, appear to be losing a signifigant amount of weight due to diarrhea & some what less active as normally noted.
3 appear to be completely recovered (were seperated from the others upon onsight problems)from our efforts with recommended treatments now 2 more have come down with the same symptoms but are NOT responding or bouncing back as well as the other 3 did to the following rounds of meds recommended per deer forum responces or threads.....
We have treated all fawns with Corrid via bottle, Iodine in bottles & in water buckets, %50 Electrolytes with reduced milk to %50,Probiotics, 1cc Excede & B12 inj,....
Today we treated the infected fawns orally with Fenbendazole (safeguard paste) as suggested per forum readings for Giardiasis(Giardia Lamblia).
Question is will the Fenbendazole clear the Giardia?
Will Metronidazole (Flagyl) be the best treatment for all exposed? If So, How much, how often, and how do you administer this to all if unable to orally administer?!?
Any suggestions welcome. THANKS
