And this crap continues to happen and yet our industry doesn't do anything to stop it. A TV show host makes one comment about beef and the whole world came crashing down on her until she retracted what was said. Yes, yes, yes we are not as powerful as beef. But there are a ton of very rich and powerful people in cervids and yet no one challenges these jerk who print this garbage.

The ACA has hired Berman and Company to respond to these negative articles, and do a pro-active campaign.  They are the same group that went after HSUS.  There first articles should be coming out shortly.  The problem with our industry is, very few people care.  I posted this 2 weeks ago, and didn't get one response, comment, or pledge.   The ACA raised the money for a one year campaign.

This industry has never been attacked like it is now, by conservation and wildlife groups.  We can't keep sticking our heads in the sand, hoping this will go away.

People need to get involved, or you won't have an industry in the future!

Indiana has a ton to lose here with no preserves. Myron Miller your get on here, what is idefa doing?

Should the border fence around every state not hold back cattle movement as well. The cow is a scientifically proven reservoir host for the EHD virus. The virus does not survive the winter in northern and mid western states. It's spread north is blamed most commonly on wind currents. The midge does live in northern environments and is found there each year. EHD is not found in the north every year even though the midge population sometimes is thriving and areas are infested. It is my opinion that it is often introduced to the area via a reservoir host. Big money keeps this hidden. Cattle are not tested for EHD when they are moved from southern ranches to the northern plains summer grazing pastures. Commercial cattle operations as well as small hobby farms buying and bringing cattle up north have no seasonal movement restriction and are free to move cattle during the peek of EHD season. Cattle are a very slow moving target the midge can feed on and then bight our deer and the wild deer. Whole counties deer herds are decimated by EHD but not a word from people like Ryan Sabalow and these wacky conservation groups about its spread. The midge will never be eradicated. It has always been around EHD has not.

I'm afraid these forums aren't what they used to be Gary.  With that being said, I totally appreciate EVERYTHING that Russell has done for us over the years.  However, for some reason these new forums just have not taken off.  I know that I barely get on here once or twice a week, where as the old forums... I would be on several times a day from my iPhone.  It's inexplicable really.  Just can't put my finger on it.

So with all of that being said, the majority of farmers across the country are NOT on here.  There's really only a very small fraction from our industry that participate here on a regular basis.

I for one am incredibly concerned with the state of our industry.  However, I am confident in the ACA's hiring of one of the most aggressive and level headed PR Firms in the nation!  We will fight back, and that day cometh soon!

Why is it that "Very Few People Care "?? Why is that? Why won't people get involved ?

To late for some states as things will never be reversed. Hope its not to little to late for some other states fighting the good fight. If you go back in the old forums people were looking for this action years ago. I myself believe the only thing that will save this industry now from any future crap is a live test for cwd. They always start their fights against us with cwd and within the 1st paragraph they are talking about high fence hunting. The states know we have a better product and are afraid we are going to put them out of business someday.

It starts in Missouri and the **** stops soon. Band together and join the push back. I never believed we could get this far. If we get a veto we will override. If that fails we will win in court. If we win here against the most powerful DNR in the country the tide will turn. Thanks to all who are busy everyday helping.

People are starting to join us and are realizing what's right and what's wrong.

One thing I learned at the capital in the time I spent there...don't talk to the people who are with you...don't waste time preaching to the choir. And don't waste time arguing with the lost souls. Spend your time with the uninformed. That's where the victory will be won!

The very best words I have read on these forums in a very very long time.

Our argument should be if they are going to close our borders they need to put up a fence between each state! And what about Texas? They have been closed for years and CWD showed up in the state! I just love how Mr. Sabalow claims that he UNCOVERED what a person could go out and research. He didn't uncover squat.

Not to get off topic, and seeing how I don't know as much as some about CWD, wouldn't a closed state that didn't have cwd before but showed up anyways be bad for the business overall? Doesn't that prove that it can't be controlled or stopped in a captive environment?

Are you talking showed up in a closed border farm or a closed border wild herd?  If it came from the wild then that means it walked or flew in. Not the deer farmer. Kinda like Iowa now says their case walked in from one of the border states.

Think the west Texas CWD positive wild mule deer is what is being referred.

I fear that the similarity in the sounds of EHD and CWD is being used to prey upon the ignorance of the uninformed. Politicians use this method to get elected by low information voters.Advertisers also do it. Nearly everyone has a farmer in their family who they have heard say " found a lot of dead deer while picking the corn this year" or maybe the uniformed person knows a fisherman who found a lot of dead deer along the river or lake this summer. The average uninformed person then reads the Ryan Sabalow article and hears the abbreviation CWD where the C sounds much like the E in EHD and then the D's the same way. Then their uninformed mind recalls the piles of dead deer story uncle farmer or fishing friend told them and soon the the hook is set and Ryan Sabalow or the MDC is reeling them in against us and CWD is the plague nearly upon us. I think it is an important part of our narrative to call EHD by the name Bluetounge. The similarity in sound is being shrewdly played against us.

Michael,

I think its all about what you want in life and if you are willing to educate yourself.  I get on here every day because I want to LEARN.  What I may not need to know today I may need tomorrow.  I guess some are not wired that way.  As others say this forum is a wealth of information and  learn things everyday from other people on here not to mention what is going on in the industry.  If people want to live in their own little box, I guess that's up to them.  For us this is not a HOBBY.  Everything I learn on here counts to the production of my herd, even though I am a veterinarian, I do not know all and learn on here every day.

Thanks for your input Jerrilee.  Not sure if your comments about "educating yourself" were directed at me... I will assume they were not, that is unless you know nothing about me.

I agree with the rest of your comments on the forums being a great resource.  They are however very different from a "traffic" standpoint compared to previous iterations of this resource.

All I was trying to say is that the majority of deer farmers across the country are NOT on here.  And that was in response to Gary's obvious and totally understandable frustration.

Lastly, just because someone is not on a website doesn't mean that they are not 100% completely tuned in and fighting for our industry.

Wow people take things too personally on here , that's probably the likely reason people don't get on here as much . I didn't mean you as in YOU. I meant it as a person in general.

'Lastly, just because someone is not on a website doesn't mean that they are not 100% completely tuned in and fighting for our industry. '

??? I didn't say this our even imply it. But I agree with your statement!
