Hi Everyone

First off thank you to everyone on this site for your help to us new deer farmers. I have attached a picture of a 2 1/22 month old buck fawn. If you

look on his nose there are 3 circular marks. I was wondering if this might be ring worms and if so would safegaurd be an ok wormer for that. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank You

Ringworm is not a true worm it is an infection caused by fungus.

Put Betadine on it and scrub leave it 10 min and Rinse thoroughly with water.

Follow with a rinse, using 2 tablespoons white vinegar mixed in 1 quart of clean water.

Thanks for your reply, but I should have mentioned this buck fawn is probably 50 + pounds and is pretty wild. I took the picture will a good zoom lense. Will this go away on its own or is there some way to treat it through food or water that would not hurt the other deer. He is also in the same pen as a pregnat doe and another 3 week old buck fawn so I am concerned about what to medicate with.

SMZ pills may work... Can you toss treats at him with a pill in it.

Banana works good or bread... pack it around the pill. I break them in half so they are less likely to bite it the pill and taste it when they chew.

Sulmet may work,in the water... but they do not like the taste much.

This is a common fungal infection usually seen in fawns. Get some tenactin(sp?) anti-fungal =creme and apply it 2-3 times aq day. In a few days it will be a small bald spot that will hair over in a few weeks.

Scott is exactly right, as usual :). My 2 does both had the same spots on both their ears last year. I too thought it was ringworm. I treated with some antifungal creme AND sprayed with Blu-kote. The round spots would get hard and crusty and when they fell off there was a small bald spot. Whatever it is, they only had it once and it was only on their ears. Good luck!
