We are 3 years into deer farming. We have had 4 of our AI does fawn and they ALL had singles. They are young does but two of them have had 3 sets of twins 3 years running. The other two this was their first year fawning. Is there an explanation to this? two were AI'ed by one vet and the other two by another. Any explanation would be great! Thanks!

Metroman, the first to variables I would look at is:

1) What brand of PMSG was administered and at what dosage?

2.) condition of your does at the time of insemination? does that are overweight do not breed as good .

I had 4 that were ai'ed and was their first fawns. All four had singles also. Not sure why that is. That being said, all the singles were very good size, one was 8.6 lbs and the others were all over 9 lbs with the biggest at 9lb 10oz. Big and healthy. Sometimes i almost think i would rather have that then have trips or quads. But twins would have been nice!

Two nice big healthy twins are the best if you ask me......but then I would rather have a nice big healthy single..........trips and quads spell trouble usually........

I had almost all.mine do that a couple years ago..I was using cheap feed and since i have changed it has never happened again
