We use ADM Thermal Care R it will fight off the heat stress. We Put in our feed two weeks before the heat came into Wisconsin. It worked the deer keep eating and growing antlers. This has been our third season using product.
Looking at how often we've had to buy feed, I don't think it affected them at all. We had one week where it was 90 degrees every day. Even though it gets into the 80's now it always cools down at night and that is when they feed.
Mike - Other than shade, and what Gary suggested, I'm not sure there is much you can do to ''cool them off''. That being said, some of my ''bonehead'' deer (no pun intended) will on occassion lay right out in the sun on some of those hot days. The thing that has made this heat even more unbearable is the fact there has been NO air moving at all. I do all I can to avoid any of my activity in and around the pens in an effort to not bother them during the heat of the day and just let them be still. I have been fortunate though thru all this heat, in that they have all been eating and coping. Here's what would help Mike: We sell some good deer for some great prices and make a bunch of money. Then we build some heat friendly sheds complete with some powerful fans in each of them. I would seriously love to do that. At any rate, there is relief in site. Better weather on it's way all this week beginning with tomorrow - 79 for a high on Wednesday.
