Hello Everyone:

I have a good friend and colleague who called me today to tell me that his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and the doctors have not given him very long to live. They told my friend to spend as much time with him as he could. It was unexpected news.

This friend is a full time police officer and an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His father as well. He called me to see if I knew of any hunting opportunities for his dad because he always wanted to take a big buck. The story really hit home. Can anyone help with making this wish come true? I know there are alot of preserve and ranch owners on these forums and alot of farmers who deal with them. He would need something close to home and something that could provide accomodations when he is hunting because he has difficulty walking etc. We are in northeastern pennsylvania, Luzerne County.

This is the reason why preserves and ranches are so important, they offer opportunities that otherwise couldn't be achieved. Talk about a story that could help to silence alot of our critics. And let me tell you, as a deer farmer, it felt good that my friend could rely on our industry to try to make his fathers big buck dream come true.

If anyone can help please let me know. Best way to contact me is by email.

Thank you for your help with this mission.

I haven't received any responses yet. Point of clarification, he is not looking for a free hunt! We are looking for someone who has a preserve in close proximity with suitable accomodations and can provide a hunt soon. Please forward hunt details, including prices.

Thanks again.

To all members PLEASE READ:

I want to let everyone know that Nate Morrett generously offered to donate a 150"-170" class whitetail and a preserve in Indiana to help make this man's dream happen. I cannot tell you how overwhelmed the family was in hearing of Nate's generosity. They were absolutely overwhelmed as was I.

At this time I am still waiting to hear from the family to see if he can make the trip from here in northeast pa. Obviously this news hit unexpectedly and they have alot to think about. This man has six children and he passed down his love for the outdoors to all of them. Two of his four sons are police officers, one here in northeastern PA and another son, is a police officer in the state of Alaska. That son will be flying into PA to be with his father and to discuss their plan of action to fight this terrible disease. (Their father does not yet know that Dr.s have only given him four to twelve weeks to live). I expect to hear from them soon about the hunt.

Although the hunt in Indiana may not be able to happen due to distance, everyone must know about Nate's generosity. Not only did he offer the deer and hunt in Indiana, he also offered the deer to be available for transport back to a preserve in PA. So, if anyone is coming this way and can pick up this deer and knows of a preserve here in PA, let me know as that can be another option that the family can consider. If not, and you know of other hunt availabilities in PA let me know so that I can provide all options to the family.

Once again, I want to give a big thanks to Nate! I don't know if he realizes yet how his mere offer brought so much warmth and happiness to this family at such a difficult time. I will keep all posted.

I would be happy to donate a buck if there is preserve here in pa that would like to open up their facilities for this gentleman........sounds like time is of importance.....let's hope and pray that the doctors are wrong with their time frame they have given....better yet let's pray that there os a miracle and this awful disease is completely wiped out from this poor man? I have the buck if anyone has the preserve....we would just need to figure out how to get the animal transported!

Actually the buck I would donate is pictured in my avatar to the left.......he is probably in the 180's to 190 this year........ His is older but very healthy.

Wow, the generosity of everyone is amazing. It is really heartening to see this!

We have a preserve in pa that is 1000+ acres we donate hunts every year to diabled children and would love to help. Our preserve has lodge with handicap facilities and stands that are also easy to get in and out of. If the buck is already donated we would be able to help out for little to no money in this situation.

Dan,

If Indiana does not work, there is a place in Muncy that Larry and I can make work...just let us know!

Feel free to give me a call 814-312-6729. We have a operation in central PA. These hunts bring more of a reward to us then anyone. Some of the best memories of my life come from sitting in a stand on make a wish hunts. If dennis or another would help with a donation of a buck it would help us a lot. We would provide everything else free of charge. We try to donate 10-20 make a wish hunts a year and have all the access anyone would need. I can usually have the deer mounted and with hunter in 5-10 days after harvest in these situations. If we can help in any way please let me know.

Great offer heath..You guys have to be busy with your hunts this time of the year and to open up the place to help this get done is great!! I hope dennis and you guys can get together and get this done as i am sure this will mean more to the family of this fella than we could ever know.

Hello Everyone:

Despite our best efforts it does not look like we will be able to make this happen. Sadly, my friend's father took a turn for the worse on Friday night. The cancer is simply moving too fast. Ten days ago he was getting off a plane after visiting his two sons who live in Alaska and now he is fighting for every minute of his life. I didn't say anything earlier because I was hoping for a miracle recovery and quite frankly I refused to give up. The reality has now set in, the cancer has taken over and they are losing him even quicker than the doctors imagined.

I want to say thank you to Nate, Dennis (DJD Whitetails), Derrick, rrwhitetails, Larry Pittinger (Thunder Valley Whitetails), Heath, Jarrid Barry (Powder Ridge Whitetails) and all those who tried to help make this happen. In less than a week we had deer offered, preserves offered and thanks to Jarrid, a way to transport the deer to the preserve. I am speechless. To tell you a little bit about the man you were trying to help I have to tell you that even after being hospitalized Friday night, he made his son promise to go out Saturday morning for PA's opening archery day. His family, their happiness and the outdoors are so important to him. You couldn't have found a better person or a better family to help. I can't thank you enough. I am proud to be part of such a magnificent group. The family knows of all of the generous offers and they send their deepest and most sincere thanks.

Please pray for him and his family. I will keep you posted.

Sorry to inform everyone that my friend's father passed away. It happened much sooner than the family and even the Dr.'s expected. Once again, the family sends their most sincere thanks. They are extremely grateful for all of your efforts.

Prayer sent to the family.

This really makes me think of my Dad, and how much I really need to enjoy and appreciate the time with him while I've still got him here.

Daniel, I know how they feel after loosing my wife to cancer, it hurts and it will continue to hurt for some time. Our loss is the fathers gain and now he is chasing deer all over the heavens. Please pass along my sincere symphthy to the family and friends effected by this loss.
