High winds

I hope everyone is safe and that everyone is spared damage to pens and deer from falling trees and such.

I got home about 1AM this morning from having drove from home here in north central WI to John Ervin Stoltfus's place in Narvon PA and back, to pickup a doe fawn I purchased from him.

It was quite the trip coming back with the line of storms we crossed near Cleveland OH and heavy rains most of the way across OH. Then strong winds across IN. Through IL wasn't so bad but then once we headed north through WI the winds seemed to just get worse again. Once we got up in this area tree branches and whole trees along with powerlines laid everywhere.

Thanks to John Ervin for selling me this doe fawn which Laurie has decided to call "Karat". Karat is a 2010 Gold Rush daughter out of a Flees' Reggie/Bucky doe.

I think this girl will be happy here at our place and we intend to expose her to Updraft. That should be a great cross I think.

John Ervin has a really nice place and it was great to see his layout. I always enjoy seeing other farms. If you live along my track and are wondering why I didn't call you for a visit, I wish I could have stopped. But the trip was almost 18 hours one way and it was a long enough trip as it was this time. Next time I make the trip out there I have several places I hope to hit along the way.

Strong winds is right!! This is just crazy! So much for shade cloth and any other site barrier I had up. I am glad the deer are not minding the blowing cloth. No matter how I had it fastened it is finding its way to tear off. When the wind quits I will have some work to do before I pull cidr's and breed.

Up here in the straits of Mackinac the Mackinac bridge recorded 78 mph winds. We lost about 14 trees in our pens but lost no deer. The pressure dropped to 28.4 which is the same as a cat 3 hurricane. This is the lowest ever recorded in the midwest.

We have had power outages for over 2 days now and lots of lines and trees down. Some power has been restored but still over 30,000 without power in northern WI. We had a few trees come down - one on our house - but no real damage. Yesterday all the small towns around us were without power - what a mess.

Thanks Scotty. I am very excited about both Gold Rush on the Reggie/Bucky doe, and about bringing her back to Bucky through Updraft.

Thanks Scott. I have her in with Updraft as I type this. She is good sized so we will see if she can get bred before Dec 31st when we remove the does from the bucks.
