at what age does a fawn become a yearling?

at what age does a fawn turn become a one year old?

I would think that they would become a yearling and a one year old at the same time. I call mine yearlings when I get new fawns the next year and my fawns become one year old give or take a few days

An animal born in the spring of 2010 becomes both a "1 year old" and a "yearling" in the spring of 2011. So through the winter of 2010 it is still a fawn. But once the following years fawns start dropping the previous years fawns become "yearlings."

I can see why you could get confused farmfordeer, I know some guys at work call fawns "yearlings" in rifle season, that bugs me, they are still only 7 months old at that time, how can they be yearlings? LOL

Antlershed, it probably makes them feel better than saying I shot a fawn. I see so called hunters quite often kill fawns and think it is a yearling.

hehe. :D

Yea, I hear people all the time call fawns yearlings and it just drives me nuts. Farmfordeer, a yearling is 1-1.5 yr old deer. Fawn is less than a year old.
